At the risk of repeating a previous post (which I was unable to find incidentally), what features would people like to see in Kontakt that aren't there already? For my tuppeneth worth, I would like:

    1. The DFD issues rectified (goes without saying really)

    2. The ability to export drum kits into Battery

The latter might seem a little unnecessary given what Kontakt is capable of, but just occasionally it would be a handy option.

    >;o))

    My personal wishlist would be:

    1) Absolutely no new features.

    2) A working 1.2 product.

    3) More no new features.

I would be eternally happy if Kontakt worked with Cubase SX's automation.

Totally agree with the automation. So odd that they side-stepped the whole thing - how powerful Kontakt would be if you could just hit "W" and GO!

    My Wishlist:

1)My biggest concern: fix Kontakt's samplerate problems!! I have had so much careful work ruined because Kontakt can't interpret 48k properly!

    2)DFD fixes

3)Be able to drag/rearrange the order of the instrument modules

    4)UNDO. that would be glorious.

5)The Browser should stay at the same folder when you hit "REFRESH", instead of inexplicably expanding the C:\ drive!!

6)FX parameters should have total recall like everything else, instead of 'forgetting' its settings.

That's it for now. Not too bad, although I'm sure the Mac/PT users have larger lists...

    Ditto, and I'll add:

    4) DFD that works, including during export

    5) More more no new features :D

    My only feature wish:

Add the possibility to record within Kontakt *please_please*. It does work in Absynth, in Reaktor, even in Dynamo. :-0 Why not in Kontakt?

    My only bugfix plea:

Make the virtual keyboard appear as stated in the manual :)

    cheers!

    hi everyone

    1) I strongly second a recording ability within kontakt (standalone)

2a) copy groups from one instrument to another

2b) copy groups parameters to other groups in the same instruments

...think I've got something here I haven't heared any suggestions or complains about so far:

    1) when an instruments reaches its set voicelimit, Kontakt starts dropping the notes that were hit first. It would be more 'musical' to drop the notes with lower volumes first (or notes that have been struck repetitively). All sample player-based synths work this way.

    2) the ability to set different DFD preload buffer sizes for different instruments. To keep up with the harddisk, a 2 gig grand piano that is pushed to the limit in a heavy passage needs larger preloads than a monophonic organ that is played using only a few voices.

I mainly use Kontakt to play acoustic/electric piano sounds, some organs and horns live. The high preload setting that I need for the grand piano causes the Rhodes, organs etc. to use up more RAM than I have (2 gig). This is unnecessary since I am only occassionally hitting a few voices at a time on these latter instruments.

I've never heard of Volume-based Voice dropping...what instrument does that? Do you mean Velocity?

In Kontakt, you can choose between dropping voices based on Oldest, Newest, Highest, Lowest or Any. I'm not sure offhand if Highest/Lowest refers to Note Position or Volume/Velocity.

    Thanks for your reply bduffy!

You're right. I actually meant velocity.

I wasn't aware of the voice dropping settings so your comments have been very helpful. However, I immediately went looking but can't find them anywhere (not even in the manual). Could you please give me a hint? This is probably one of those cases of looking for something that's right in front of your nose.

    Thanks in advance!

Sorry! Already found it. It wasn't in front of my nose though. I was looking with my nose the first time. ;)

Cool. Are any of those options closer to what you need?

Hmmm... how about, once DFD is working, that it's as efficient at disk streaming as Giga is. Giga is super-efficient at it, as I found out when I converted Gigaharp to Kontakt. Play a few extravagant glisses and watch your CPU skyrocket, compared to giga!

Unfortunately, I found that the highest/lowest settings refer to the position on the keyboard. Lowest (the frequencies that are heared and thus missed most easily) and newest are not what I want. Highest and any result in abrupt cutting of newly played notes. So the default oldest works 'best'.

For those who don't know what problem I have with the current voice dropping settings:

-keep sustain pedal down all the way
-hit a hard low octave on one of those multi gig piano's and release keys
-now play fast chord inversions across the keyboard with sustain down(I frequently play this style during live solos)
-when you reach the voice limit, the sustaining low octaves abruptly drop-out (low notes on a piano can have sustaines of up to 2 min!)
-can't think of a bigger anticlimax during a solo (except for Kontakt crashing or heart attack of course)

Can't set the voice limit higher because then I have to increase the preload buffer size, leaving no room for loading other instruments (see point 2, 6 messages up)

Gigastudio does not give these unmusical side effects as it handles voice stealing differently.

Personally, Gigastudio never, ever worked well for me. I could never understand what all the fuss was about. So compared to Giga, I think Kontakt is a knockout...but I'm still wondering how anyone has accomplished anything with a Gigasampler!

    Hi Jon,

You're sure right about Gigastudio being much more efficient at disk streaming. I recently noticed, however, that the performance difference can be made up by using a fast state-of-the-art system (ASUS P4C800 mobo, 3.0 Ghz Pentium 4 w/800 Mhz FSB, dual-channel 400 Mhz low-latency DDR RAM (Corsair) and serial ATA 10,000 rpm harddrive). Higher preload buffer settings can get Kontakt over 150 stereo voices! compared to 160 mono voices in GS.

IMO, Kontakt outperforms the current version of Gigastudio (more voices) on this system, but drains the systems speed and resources in doing so. No problem for me as I exclusively run Kontakt on this system, as most Gigastudio users also have dedicated systems for just GS.
