Kontakt won't let me install it, any ideas?

    Dear Evil Dragon/Anyone.

All this is legit., even if it sounds dodgy! I Googled a link for the last 32-bit version of Kontakt, because i've got older disability music software which never got updated (tried getting the hang of the modern 64-bit nightmares - but my brane's just not getting it and there's no teachers around my area!)

Found the zipfile via a Native Instruments link, so it's legal! But every time I try to install it, it starts installing then says 'Can't uninstall old version of Kontakt....' and stops. Thing IS - there IS no old version of Kontakt. If I ever had Kontakt before, it's ages ago, long before Windows 10 was ever heard of, on a different hard drive, probably on a different computer. I don't consciously REMEMBER ever having it before.

So I uninstalled anything that could remotely be confusing the installer (that I could think of) and tried installing it again - same problem, it thinks I've got an old version it can't uninstall.

Am now totally out of ideas. If you need proof I've got a legal 32-bit download version of Kontakt, tell me what proof you need and if I know how to get hold of it - am NOT the greatest computer guy - I'll give it to you. But assuming my copy IS legal - it is, promise! - what's it hitting on Windows 10 that's stopping it from installing?

    Yours very puzzledly

    Chris.

So, the very latest version of Kontakt that had a 32-bit plugin variants is 6.5.3, which is not that old. I have tried googling but didn't find any 6.5.3 download link coming from a NI representative.

Pinging Matt @ NI here. Please send this man a fullflat installer for 6.5.3, not an update installer. :)

Dear Evildragon et al - sorry to be a nuisance.

THOUGHT I had a brilliant idea - I installed, then immediately UN-installed, Kontakt Player. The brilliant idea WAS that if there was something in Registry that was making the NI Installer THINK I'd gotten Kontakt already, uninstalling the player would remove it, then I'd be able to install the legit. 32-bit version.

Didn't work! Here's the error message I'm getting, I'd love you to chuck a bit of light on it for me. I swear that apart from the Kontakt player I installed/uninstalled, I've not had Kontakt on this particular computer before (maybe years ago I had a copy on a different PC, can't remember now!)

What happens when I try to install Kontakt 32 bit.jpg

It's the legit. version from the page I showed you. If you've got any ideas what it's tripping over, I'd love to know. It was doing exactly the same error BEFORE I did the Kontakt Player install/uninstall, too.

    Yours hopefully

    Chris.

    Dear Uwe and Evildragon.

Uwe, I got the reg. tool and went through the list - until I hit U-he Zebra which I honestly didn't even know was made by Native Instruments - thought it was made by U-he! I've had that absolutely ages and often use it - wouldn't removing its reg. entries make it unusable? Dp | HAVE to remove its reg. entries to make Kontakt installable (if yes and doing so doesn't make it unusable - I'd have to hunt through a pile of old hard drives to re-find the installation file - I'll do it).

Evildragon, before you blow fire at my computer to shut me up, did you mean it when you said you thought I had an update installer, not a real installer, and that N.I. should give me a different installer?

I'm a crap composer first, a computer geek VERY much second(!) and I'm getting a little outta my depth here!

Yours hopefully - you'll prob. get rid of me after this - Chris who still can't install Kontakt for the same reason as above!

You would use this tool to just remove the entries from Kontakt, then try to install, then all the registry entries would be written again and you should be able to use it - that's the idea behind this tool. It does not remove all entries of the whole list, only if you select all entries.

It IS made by u-he, but it's also NKS compatible so it will show up under NI's registry key (just like any other NKS compatible plugin).
