I tried posting this in a similar thread but it seems that my post there isn't being approved for some reason. The issue they were having isn't exactly the same as mine anyways.

On a fresh install of Kontakt 5 Player & Kontakt Factory Selection, I'm having the problem where I have to load the library every time I start the player. My Steven Slate library showed up every time no problem, but the Factory Selection does not. Its in the Service Center, registered active & up to date. I have version 5.1.0.6066 of the player, 2.4.2 of the Service center and 1.2.0 of the library.

This is happening on both my mac with Mountain Lion and my PC with win7 AND my friends laptop, I think he's on 7, maybe XP. I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling everything. I've tried installing the library to the NI folder where Kontakt player sits instead of in public documents. I've tried looking at the registry on the windows machine--I did notice one folder where there is a registry key that has a short code in it and the title of my SSD library, but there was no similar item for the factory selection...I feel like that may have something to do with it. I tried giving all users full permissions on all the NI registry keys as well but that didn't change anything.

In other threads the only answers given are 'I thought this was fixed in 5.0.1' or 'just download the newest service and that will fix it.' But in my case, and my friend's, neither of those answers work.

The only other thought I've had that I haven't tried is uninstalling the service center and downloading it by itself from NI rather than using the one bundled with the player. The version listed on the website is older than the one that came with the player (or older than whatever it updated to, anyways). I'm going to try that today so we'll see, but I'm not really expecting it to help anything.

    Any ideas?

    EDIT!
I figured it out. I uninstalled the service center, THEN opened Kontakt (standalone, but I bet it doesn't matter) and added the factory selection library. Without service center installed, Kontakt actually gave me a little message when I added it saying 'kontakt will now add this library, give it any admin rights it asks for.' With service center installed I never got that message. Sure enough, I closed out of Kontakt and re-opened and the library was still there. After that, I installed service center from its own installation file downloaded from the website...the library was still in Kontakt after install but before updating. And then I let it update and the library is still there.

Hope this helps someone else with the same issue. In a nutshell, uninstall service center, then add the library, then install & update service center.

    Fascinating.

I will look out for this, thank you for the followup.

No problem, I haven't tried to fix it on the Mac yet and I haven't gotten any confirmation that my friend has tried it on his machine....but its still good on my win7 laptop.

I couldn't tell from your description if you opened Kontakt the first time as a plugin or as a stand alone so disregard if I'm just writing something that you already knew.

Every time you fresh install one of the players like Kontakt or Absynth, etc. then you need to open it the first time as a stand alone for it to do it's first time library thing. I don't think service center makes a difference in the process.

I agree. Also, while you have it open in standalone mode, it's a good idea to set your audio and MIDI interface settings so that if you ever do want to play it standalone in the future you won't have to fuss around with that just to get it to work.

Yeah I tried that too. Tried adding the library from the VST, from the stand-alone, tried reinstalling and only using the stand-alone...etc etc etc. Absolutely nothing worked until I uninstalled the service center, and then it worked the first time and hasn't broken since even after re-installing the service center. And that result was duplicated on my drummers computer.
