    Hey,
I thought this may be a good place to go for opinions and if anyone elses has had a similar issue.
Ok, inputs - I use the Kontrol S4 with my macbook(approx 2 yrs old). I have other Dj's coming in who have other kit, so they run their music though the inputs/decks C and D.
Ok, easy enough yep? The first time I did this the input for deck D would not work, so we ended up using just deck C. Weird I thought, maybe a setting i missed? Anyway didn't think anything of it until the next time, again wanting to use both decks, the same thing happened? Now I'm also having problems with the microphone, I can't control the MIC VOL, so effectively it's on all the time if it's plugged in, (which can cause feedback obviously), the only way of controlling it is with the MAIN LEVEL, again weird.
Finally I used the Kontrol S4 on Saturday, somebody wanted to run an ipod through the input, so again in preferences I set decks C and D to live input, this time nothing on either(yes I did switch it from phono to line) not even the lights came on! I have a gig on Saturday where these need to be working, any ideas? Has anyone els experienced this? Have I overlooked something really simple? This is real concern, I have wondered that it may be linked to my laptop, do functions sht down if the laptop isn't giving out enough ram? I may load the software on my big imac to test this theory.
But any theories or advice out there would be greatly appreciated.

    Lee.

Well... to start, you are trying 2 different things, both of which require different setups.

If you want to use Decks C & D as live inputs, and have control of the volume fader, eq settings and filters, then the switch on the back needs to be set to "USB", and then select "Live Input" in the software.

If you are trying to use the THRU input on Deck D, then you simply need to set the switch to THRU, which will basically bypass the software... and you will not have control via the mixer section.

Does no one read the manual anymore?

Check your routing. Then your decks (for Live Input). Then your fader. Then the device plugged in.

Thanks so much for both of your replies.
With the set-up as Channel C left/Channel C right and the other as Ch D left and Channel D right. Both deck flavors set as LIVE and the switch at the back set on USB. However with this set-up it took quite a few attempts to actually hear any sound coming out of the channels at all, which I found a little dumbfounding and disconcerting, not sure why this would happen, or should for that matter?

    A faulty Kontrol S4.

    Hi,
I have seen a few posts on various things in this forum, but not one for an actual faulty Kontrol S4, I have tried everything to understand WHY my live inputs do not work properly, by live inputs I mean EVERYTHING, including the microphone input, which has now completely stopped working. I have had my Kontrol S4 since May, I have used it for about 8 gigs (plus a practising time). This should not be happening.

This is the set-up(macbook)- I've used both the set-up wizard to change it from 'Decks A & B and 2 sample decks' to 'Decks A & B 2 live decks'(I use the software, other Dj's coming in to play are wanting to use the live inputs), I get an error message saying 'please connect to an audio source'. I've had to do this over and over and over again, until by sheer chance I get a signal coming through channel C, Channel D, nothing!
Microphone - nothing! Settings in the back are set correctly, double checked, re-checked, changed, re-checked.....thru to use as a mixer, usb..etc..

I have also noticed a loss of volume on the output, normally I have the main levelsjust over halfway, but I've had omph that too and I've had to use both the gains on both channels A and B, which I don't normally fiddle with.

All in all, it seems to me that I have something wrong with the inputs(or outputs too) on the mixer, either that or the software needs re-booting on my macbook? To me the set-up of the live inputs wether by using the set-up wizard or just selecting live inputs in preferences is simple, which leads me to believe this is a bigger problem.....Has ANYONE had these same problems?

    Hi Lee,
I did a gig recently where we had live decks going through the S4, and inputs would stop working - embarrassing reboots fixed the problem - I never had this while practising which is a pain - only after the TP2 upgrade.
