    Hello!

I don‘t own a Traktor Kontrol S8 and have this question: is it possible to send signals via MIDI mode through to an iPad or iPhone receiving these signals? Did anyone test this yet? It is possible to test that with the app MIDI Scope in the App Store and a Lightning to USB adapter.
I heard some of the DJ controllers of native instruments are class compliant to iOS and others not, but there is no official list. Hope someone is able to help because I’m willing to buy the S8.

    Greetings,

This is of interest to me so willing to buy what I need to do so. This what I know/worked out:

    1) Connectivity wise, the S8 is only compatible with iOS on iPads (iPadOS I guess is the right term now), and then only as a sound card so any kind of direct connection is out. https://support.native-instruments....I-Controller-Audio-Interface-to-an-iOS-Device

    2) The intended way of connecting an S8 to another device for MIDI purposes are through the 5 PIN MIDI sockets. I purchased a cheap USB-MIDI cable years ago (2012) and have used successfully to connect my S8 to my MacBook running a number of MIDI apps. The actual cable I chose was https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004AFUP0G but there's a lot of choice now.

    3) To connect the USB side of the above cable to an iOS/iPadOS device I understand you need another adapter, the official one being this £35 Apple one https://www.amazon.co.uk/Apple-Lightning-Camera-Adapter-white/dp/B01DGDNL2G. I am going to try this cheaper version which will be with me hopefully tomorrow - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Adapter-Light-ning-Compatible-Support-Required/dp/B08348S64N

    4) It is likely either of the above adapters will need powering using a standard Apple USB to Lightning cable.

    5) A powered USB hub may also be required between the MIDI USB adapter and the Apple USB adapter. I think (and hope) this will be unlikely.

I'll let you know how I get on!

So with no additional power, plugged the USB-Lightning cable into my iPhone XR, the USB-Midi cable into the S8 MIDI Out and then into the USB-Lightning cable and received messages in MIDI Scope - tested the Traktor Clock Sync and also a CC message that was output when the Play key was toggled:

    Hey Nick,
I‘m very thankful for your work, I really consider now to buy a S8.
So then my final question is did you successfully mix tracks by using the S8 over iPhone/iPad via iOS App like Djay Pro receiving the signals you get with the MIDI Scope App?
    Best regards,
