Hi everyone, hope someone can help me out with this.

Ableton keeps crashing and Ableton seem to think it might be a problem with the kontrol script see this response from Ableton below.

    A couple of questions

Has anyone else had this problem, live just hangs and I have to do a hard reset.
I have all the drivers up to date and I have uninstalled max 4 live and its still crashing.
They have asked me to uninistall the komplete kontrol keyboard to do a test run, I have komplete ultimate 11 which has been upgraded from Komplete 11, 8 and 9.
    Here
    https://support.native-instruments....-Software-and-Drivers-from-a-Windows-Computer
it says to do it by going to unistall the komplete bundle then choose the instrument, but I don't have komplete 11 there, I have:

    komplete kontrol
    komplete kontrol driver
    Komplete 7
    komplete 9

But no komplete 11, so can I just uninstall

    komplete kontrol
    komplete kontrol driver

If i do this will I be able to reinstall through native access?

See below for my correspondence with ableton

    Cheers,
    Mike

    Hi Michael,

Thank you for getting in touch.

I'm sorry hearing about the issues.

There are traces in the logs leading to the suspicion that the Max version 7.0.6 as editor is playing a part here.

First of all, please remove the Max application from your applications folder.

Reset Live and Max once again please:

    How to reset Live

How to reset Max for Live

Install the latest Max 7.3.4 application and connect this one as Max editor please:

    https://cycling74.com/downloads

Before you restart Live, please make sure to have all the dmgs ejected.

Then please install the Max for Essentials package from here:

    https://www.ableton.com/de/packs/max-live-essentials

Should it still be problematic or fail to load or crash, please update me with either including the latest Status or Crash Report:

Where to find Live's Crash Reports

How to create a Live Status Report

I hope this is helpful information!

Please let me know how it is going after the above mentioned was done.

    All the best from Berlin,
    Marcus

I did everything you said weirdly it randomly now crashes (not freezes) when I go to open a live set once once ableton has started up, but once I restart again and try to load the same live set it loads fine. I have attached the crash reports.

this time it hanged again, crash reports attached

    Hi Michael,

    Thank you for getting back.

Some of the latest crash fingerprints are suggesting crashes in the Max editor. The logged Live runs however are showing remote scripts being problematic in conjunction. It is not exactly clear to me what the root cause here is so we would have to do some further trouble shooting, I'm sorry about this!

So it seems to involve Max and the Komplete Kontrol script (FocusControl). Can you verify please whether this is still reproducible without the Komplete Kontrol script? A cross check without any Max devices should also be done. Ideally all four options should be checked to narrow it down further.

If you keep having these problems with Live and Max in your sets, please get back to me with the latest report once more and I'll follow this up.

    All the best,

I have found that there were still two max 6.1.6. and max 6.1.6. (x64) on my computer I have uninstalled them now. I seem to be able to open up the track I couldn't the other day. Will let you know if it crashes again. Cheers,
    Mike

It crashed again. So that did not solve it. Crash report attached. It crashed when I was using komplete kontrol, no max devices loaded on tracks.

This time it crashed when i was browsing using the kontrol keyboard to browse.

    Hi Michael,

Thank you for getting back to me.

I'm sorry to hear it is persisting!

The actual crash is happening with Max involved. The crash fingerprint shown for this a generic one not providing precise information about the root cause. However, there were still multiple remote script errors logged which are all tracing back to the Komplete Kontrol installation. So this script seems to be playing a bigger part in this. Could you imagine to uninstall it for one of the next test runs?

Since we update the API frequently for the Push 2 integration and its optimization, third parties also would have to adopt newer technology. There might be a chance that this is tracing back to an incompatible or older build of the script. If in doubt, I would also suggest verifying with NI to be sure that this is the latest Komplete Kontrol installation, supporting Windows 7 and Live 9.7.3 versions.

There was more in the logs, the ASIO driver of the Soundcraft USB Audio interface is reporting an odd value for the buffer size. This should be checked, ideally in both applications, Live and also the control software of the interface itself. Please make sure that all values are matching. In Live it should only be possible to set power of two values for the audio buffer size. This is to avoid processing related issues which might occur under certain circumstances.

As an addition, please also go for a crosscheck using an universal ASIO driver:

How To: Set up ASI04ALL with an audio interface (Win)

In order to identify any load and/or also driver related issues, please also have a look at section 6a and b of the following article as this might be helpful in ruling these things out:

    https://help.ableton.com/hc/en-us/articles/209071469-Optimizing-Windows-for-Audio

Please let me know what the status is after these thoughts were considered.

Should it still crash, please let me know about the combination of software in conjunction and please also upload a Status or Crash Report again and I'll follow this up.

I hope this is helpful information!

    All the best,
    Marcus

I looked at the kontrol scripts and there were
    _init_.py
    _init_.pyc
    FocusControl.py
    FocusControl.pyc
    GUtil.py
    GUtil.pyc
    SimpleDeviceComponent.py
    SimpleDeviceComponent.pyc

I replaced these with newer versions from the kontrol installation folder.

Will see if that makes a difference.

    Cheers,
    Mike

I uninstalled max for live and the track opened fine. Other track I had problems with also opened. Then it crashed again. Going to run a memory test to see if my memory that might be causing problems.

    Hi Michael,

Thank you for getting back to me.

In these latest logs you sent, I'm seeing an error message because of the Max application missing. However, the FocusControl initializing is one of the last actions taken before it crashes. I'm wondering whether you already tried loading the set without the Kontrol script but Max 7.3.4 installed. Also, was the reset done before installing the later version of the Kontrol script?

    Please let me know.

    All the best,
    Marcus

    Marcus

I didn't reset it before changing the scripts should I do that. Not tried loading the set without the Kontrol script but Max 7.3.4 installed. Would i just delete the kontrol script from
    C: > ProgramData > Ableton > Live 9 > Resources > MIDI Remote Scripts
    to do unistall it?

Also ran memtest on my memory and it passed fine, so don't think that is a problem.

    Cheers,
    Mike

    Hi Mike,

    Thanks for getting back.

Good to hear that your RAM test succeeded and it does not seem to be a hardware issue.

    >> I didn't reset it before changing the scripts should I do that.

Yes, please try this. You could already go for a test run without the script set in Live but there might still be interferences which we are not aware of yet. So it might still make sense trying to go for a removal.

    C: > ProgramData > Ableton > Live 9 > Resources > MIDI Remote Scripts

No, I would not recommend to do that. Please follow the steps as provided by NI to uninstall. There should be a routine to do so but I might be wrong there. If in doubt, please consider contacting NI to get the proper steps for uninstalling/updating or disabling.

    Please let me know.

    All the best,

Reset ableton, ran with new scripts of komplete kontrol. Got blue screen of death after about an hour. Saw there is update for graphics card so have installed that. Bit weary about unistalling komplete kontrol as not sure if I will lose the settings in ableton of all the tracks that I have which use the komplete kontrol external instrument. Could you look at crash report and see if it is obvious what is causing the crash. Cheers, Mike

Didn't read your whole email trail but I am a Live user and have had no such issues with Komplete Kontrol. In fact, I have never had a crash at all related to KK.

    - What version of Live?
    - Is it 32 or 64bit?
    - How/When does it crash (when you save, open a track, Randomly)
    - Do you have any other control surfaces attached to the PC?
