    Hi,

It seems I'm out of the loop for better or worse regarding the use of my CDJ 800s and my recent purchase of the Kontrol X1.

I have A Pioneer DJM 600 hooked up with two CDJ 800's; an Audio 4 DJ which then connects the mixer to the laptop with the Kontrol X1 plugged into the laptop as well. I have Traktor Scratch Duo installed on the laptop.

Is there a way I can use the CDJ 800's to finely beat match my tunes on the jog dials while using the Kontrol X1? Is there a way I could use the cueing buttons on the CDJ as oppose to ones on the transport system of the X1 but still have liberty to use other features of the X1?

I want this capability so I can a) fine tune my beat matching with the jog dials b) use +/- 100 pitch as oppose to +/- 10 ........all the while having the options to use the effects, hotcue and looping functions of the X1.

Anyone's assistance on this matter would be immensely appreciated!

Yes you can do that. I'm assuming you use the timecode control that comes with the scratch versions. You can use that to control your tracks and then use X1 for effects etc. There is nothing special you have to setup. Just use it as is.

ah but when I do so I encounter differing problems with the sides A and B

On side A I can't even turn the track back on the jog dials. Back is forward and forward is forward. When I press cue on the CDJ, it doesn't cue on either the CDJ nor in Traktor.

Side B seems to be better in some respect. I have the same cueing problem on B as A after I do manage to cue, it acts more a stop and play mechanism as oppose to a cue marker I can tap over and over until I want to press Play. Its really annoying!

would like to add that I was in External Mixer Mode with both decks on Scratch control when I got results mentioned above.

In my experience it's maybe best to leave the cueing to the X1 (8 cue points controlled over HID why not?) unless you are using the absolute mode of Traktor Scratch the cue points will not make any sense to Traktor. When using timecode with the X1 I tend forget about cuing on the CDJ as I might not with a music disc in the CDJ. After a bit of practice i find the cues on the X1 easier to manage. These problems are going away with HID support, which these decks don't have as with HID the buttons are mapped to the track within the Traktor software. Unfortunately there is no magic way to translate the cue positions of a timecode disk on a track per track basis. You are merely setting cue points on the timecode time line.

Please feel free too ping back and criticize my opinion.

    To answer your first question:

    Yes!

Without getting into the beatgridding side of things.

Load up track, get to the bit you want to mix.

Make sure your tempos are matching (hit the sync button!)

Monitor your incoming mix and push the jog forward or backward till your mix comes into beat (assuming beatgrid it not accurate).
