    Hey guys.

I've stupidly updated my Mac to Catalina, and since doing so, my Kontrol X1 has stopped working.

The LEDs flash when I plug it in, but don't stay on when I open Traktor, and when I try to run the setup wizard, or do anything, it's just dead.

Anyone else experienced this? Or know how to fix it?

    Thanks in advance.

I found an NI Tech note that details the reason and how to fix it. Here's the deal... MacOS now requires USB devices to support Class Compliant Driver. The X1 Mk1 hardware does not support this... The fix is to unblock the Driver in the preferences | Security & Privacy Panel and then reinstall reboot and Viola your X1 Works! Let me know if you need more detail or if you have success with it! FWIW NI do not officially support this workaround but it is believed / known to work!

Thanks for the response but I might need some more info. I'm looking at Security & Privacy panel but it doesn't show the driver being blocked, so I can't choose the option to allow it.

I have the same problem, and not able to make it work since the installer for mac driver 2.8 does not work on Catalina.

Any further tips / guidance would be ever so much appreciated :) !!

    Thanks,
    R

See this is a load of bull from NI as my X1 Mk1 still works on Traktor Pro 2 (was going to download Pro 3 but don't want to until I know it works with my X1 Mk1) but i've broken the screen on my current MacBook (using it through HDMI to TV for now) so i've been trying to use it on my old MacBook that wont even update as far as Catalina, so its currently running on High Sierra and on that laptop as you said the drivers aren't there! I tried to use the X1 before updating the OS on that MacBook and it didn't work so I thought an OS update might help but it didn't change anything! So it's NI saying its discontinued and doesn't work on these OS's because of whatever reason they say is a lie because it works perfectly fine on my up to date MacBook! I personally think they're trying to discontinue the X1 MK1 so that you have to buy newer gear off them in a somewhat Apple way of things like how they used to reduce battery life, speeds etc. Think NI is just putting a block on old hardware that should working with a vague excuse as to why with hints that you need to upgrade so.... you have to upgrade! Any NI staff want to come into this thread and explain it in detail?

Updating this thread with a current positive experience. I was able to successfully perform with my X1 Mk1 on the latest version of Catalina. I hadn’t plugged in my X1 on a newer MacBook Pro (2020 16” 8-core) until the day before a wedding gig. Much to my dismay, the X1 was not detected and after searching the web for help, I found this thread.

I had tried installing the 2.8 driver following the last know fix, which failed, and then looked at the Preferences>Security pane to see if the driver installation was blocked. It wasn’t. I resigned to do the gig and just use the keyboard. I finished my set preparation and packed up for the gig. On the day of, I ran a quick set off the internal audio outdoors and then moved inside to my main sound system. I plugged the X1 in along with my Z1 out of habit...then I ended up rebooting the system to make sure I was starting the gig clean (also a habit). When the system rebooted, I was greeted with the Preferences>Security pane letting me know that the NI driver was blocked, which I then I allowed. When I launched Traktor the X1 was detected and I was good to go for the night! I’ll probably still upgrade to the X1 Mk2, but at least my gig was saved.

    So, my driver installation was:
    Install 2.8 driver (failed)
    Plug in X1
    Reboot
    Check System Preferences>Security>General
    Allow NI driver
    Launch Traktor

Hopefully this will help someone get a little extra life out of their X1 in Catalina and possibly moving forward with the next OS release.
