I have the VIP software, it seems a bit buggy to me. I have had quit a few problems with it and it seem like Akai is not doing anything more with it. I do wish it worked better it would be the perfect replacement for Kore.

I guess disregard my last statement since VIP3 just came out.

Anyone have experience with VIP 3.0 yet? Looking very Kore-like in a good way!

This IMO was one of the mainstream core features of Kore from the start. So it's interesting to observe all the "kore replacements" or "almost a replacement for kore" when to this date there really is none. Someday I hope there is.

Further, perhaps.... it shows the deeper problem NI had attempting to market Kore. Too small of a market target didn't understand what it could do?

Trying to make Kore all things to all people? But simplify it, remove morphing, and add pads you get Maschine.

VIP3.0 is tempting if you can live without morphing but my worry is Akai...there were so many complaints about VIP 2 last year, about stability and lack of development. Amazing that Kore stopped development a long long time ago but still actually works trouble free generally.

I've just bought VIP3 standard (no Air Instrument plugins) from Vstbuzz on a EU39 deal and it looks promising. I dont have any of the compatible controllers yet, I thought the deal was a way for me to have it as an option and start to move from Kore. Shame that NI left it, really silly of them.

So far its been pretty stable. Tone2 Gladiator crashed it but that one has always been problematic. I got it scanned in the end. Omnisphere also crashed it but I've got that working better to. Seems moving between cpu/memory intensive patches in any plugin is risky.

What I dont like about all these apps is that it has to wrap or host. Ideally what I'd like is for Reaper to have its own .fxb tagging and library system. I'm not so much in need of morphing but just a good tag based search system though.

Currently I'm using VIP on my Live lappy and just installed it on my main studio DAW and used the backup/restore feature to transfer all my work accross. Will do another update soon.

James Walker Halls baby is Sonic Arts Freestyle. I think FreeStyle is still about as close to Kore as anything at this moment, but it's missing the morphing features. And the hardware which I would miss too. I know he would like to make it happen, but it takes time. Based on his past with NI, if anyone other than him or Stephan Schmidt can do it, it would be him.

Still getting plenty of mileage out of Kore, and I plan to run it dry, but also...one day, hoping something will replace it.
