This has been bugging me for a long time, so I thought I'd ask here. Is there any way to have the KORE 2 controller/backlight turn off when I turn off my Mac Pro?

It seems like sometimes the backlight turns off, but most of the time I have to try and remember to disconnect the USB cable. If I forget then it sits there with the backlight on until I come back (which might not be for a couple of days). Worried about shortening the life of the hardware for no good reason ....

If it's not shutting off, you've still got power going to the USB ports. That's on your system settings.

Thanks for the tip, but can you tell me where the system settings you mentioned might be in OS X 10.6?

I've checked the "NI USB Audio" settings in System Preferences, but there doesn't seem to be any options that can be set. Is there some other place that controls power to USB devices in the Mac OS? Thanks!

In the Bios...I have an ASUS motherboard and ASUS likes the feature, that some USB slots are always powered. Maybe maybe u can't turn it off. Take a look in the Bios..

I can turn on my pc with one hit on the space-bar. I've set that in the bios.
ATM i have to disconnect all keyboards...or it will start again after shutdown no matter what... but, also i don't want all hardware to be powered all the time...so i pull the plug(s) quite often.

Mac OS X does not have a BIOS, it uses an Extensible Firmware Interface (EFI). As far as I know, there is no way to access the EFI and I know of no system setting that can be used to disable power to the USB ports when a Mac Pro system is powered down.

Of course the obvious question is why does NI not have a setting to allow users to turn off the backlight when the device is not in use? Or at least a user configurable backlight timeout setting that shuts off the backlight after certain period of time if the device is not used .....

You mean a "power-switch"? That's absolut high-tec and would triple the price of the hardware. ;)

Different ports. All USB ports on a Mac are not created equal.

It took 12 days for that come-back! There are two responses to this:-

    1) Sorry. You're out of time or

    2) There's a Mac owner for you.

    Merry Xmas everybody :D
