Hey everyone. I recently purchased the Kore 2 and I'm totally satisfied with the product. Up until recently, I've been doing my sequencing on the Roland MV-8000 and I'm pretty new to software sequencers. I'm now using Cubase LE4 and I'll upgrade to the new version soon.

My problem is that I'm having issues using Kore 2 as a plug-in in Cubase. Kore 2 is fine as a standalone, but I want to sequence within Cubase. If someone could lead me in the right direction in getting set up (routing, etc.) it would be much appreciated. I can even see the meters moving withing Cubase. I am sure this is basic question, but I've tried everything.

    System: Toshiba Satellite 2.5 GHz, 4GB Ram (Vista 64-bit), Cubase LE4, Lexicon I-Onix U82s, Maschine, M-Audio Keystation, Roland MV-8000, Kore 2 etc.

Hey Starik, thanks for your response. I can't record a midi sequence using Kore's sounds in Cubase.

Describe what steps are you making to get the sound?

For a month or so I've been using Kore 2 in standalone. So basically I've just been opening up Kore 2 from my computer and playing around with the sounds, but now I want to sequence in Cubase. The Kore 2 controller is only hooked up to my PC via USB (no midi cables to and from the Kore 2 controller to my interface). I leave Kore 2 on, I open up Cubase and create a new project with 8 midi tracks. I go to channel 1 in Cubase and adjust my settings in Cubase. I click on the monitor button on the track, I adjust the MIDI I/O to Kore 2 and I get no sound within, Cubase meaning once I record some notes within Cubase the meters don't move and no notes are recorded. I can here my sounds in the Kore software, and my meters are moving with I press notes on my keyboard, but nothing in Cubase. I'm sure I'm missing a couple of steps. I can't figure out if I need to make some adjustments inside of Kore 2, Cubase or both. I'm sure it's pretty simple, but like I said I'm new to software sequencers. Do you have a similar set-up? What would you do in my situation? I appreciate your help...

Oh I see. Yes I'm using Cubase 5.

Right click on any of the MIDI tracks --> choose create new INSTRUMENT TRACK --> in the drop-down menu that asks you to choose the instrument choose KORE 2 --> done!

    Hope it works! :)

Excuse me jumping in like this, but I get the impression that you're using Kore in standalone mode. Surely that can't work with a host like Cubase (unless you use rewire or such like). I haven't used the version of Cubase that you have, but I have used many versions from SX2 to 5 and I assume yours works in a similar way.

If I'm right, you need to do something like this:

    1. Don't open Kore first
    2. Open Cubase
    3. Create a Project
    4. Create a midi track
    5. Open the VST Instruments panel (F11 in the versions of cubase that I know)
    6. Select Kore plugin
    7. Change Midi Out in Cubase to Kore
    8. Load a sound in Kore
    9. Record
    10. Playback

    Hope that works

Right Click - Add Instrument Track - select Kore 2

Hi Martin - I'm using Cubase 5 Essentials on a PC. Try:

"Right Click" in the track column
    Select "Add instrument track"
From the menu select Kore 2

Steinberg and Native Instruments do the rest - in my set up. I'm using the full version of Kore, not the player but something should show up in that menu. If you have a multi core system the software will allocate the instances of Kore for best performance (according to the Steinberg people). I use the Freeze function a lot - you can have a lot of Kores loaded and sounding.

    Hope this helps.

Doesn't Cubase 5 Essentials have "Midi" tracks?

If not I think you are going to get a new instance of Kore with each "instrument" track. There's probably no way of avoiding this.

If it does have Midi tracks then add Kore as a VST instrument (F11)
Create 8 midi tracks in Cubase all with their output going to Kore and each with their own midi channel.
In the Kore GUI, fill 8 slots with different sounds and in the midi tab route each one to the midi channels that match the Cubase Midi tracks.

Let me know if this helps, if you still have problems I can do some screen shots.

actually im using cubase studio 5,, n it does have midi track.. il try it out..
coz ive keep having this problems with 1 of my project, which i have 5 tracks using kore!.. every time i load this project my asio performance meter will hit peak.. but when i reset my asio in device setup the asio meter doesnt ever get to 50%.. n everything runs well.. as soon as i add another kore track ,, it will go back to peak! once again i have to reset it..and it will be back to 50%..

i dont think my Q9400 is not capable of handling this,, bcoz after every reset it it will be ok,, it seems to hit peak with evry kore player i try to open.. hmm ..
anyway ill try ur method n see how it goes.. thanx alot!

So, I got Kore 2 to work flawlessly with Cubase LE4. Well, I recently purchased Cubase 5, uninstalled Cubase LE4, loaded Cubase 5 and now I can't get Cubase 5 to recognize Kore 2 as an instrument. Do I need to uninstall Kore 2 and reinstall it, or do you guys know of another fix for the issue? I think I read somewhere that it was a matter of moving some folders around, but I can't find details on this. Any guidance would be much appreciated (I'm using Vista 64-bit). Also, Cubase doesn't recognize Maschine in my set-up either, but that's not too much of an issue because of the drag-and-drop feature.

You need to copy .dll file from Native Instruments VST folder to Cubase VST folder.

Thanks man! One question though. Cubase 5 has 3 VST Folders (vst3, VST3 Presets and VST Plugins). I'm assuming I should copy (Native Instruments_Kore2.dll) to one of those Cubase folders (I'm guessing the VST Plugins folder). Also, should I cut or copy?
    ---
And also I'm assuming the same applies for Mashine?

No problem :) Copy to VST Plugins. I don't own Maschine but yeah try that too should work.
