I was wishing this last summer before NI officially said...or in reality finally admitted...per Kier @ NI..."Maschine is not a substitute for Kore."

I have read about users wanting more features in Maschine, and Maschine becoming a DAW etc. But I have also read about users complaining that Maschine is becoming too bloated and complex. I own Maschine and often have to refer to the user manual when attempting to get something new to work. Then I discover if it was something that worked in Kore it only works half as good in Maschine...for example the Maschine browser.

Meanwhile, the masses love Maschine and think its "revolutionary." If they only knew what real control is and what they are missing out on. The problem with Kore is it didn't appeal to the masses for a variety of reasons. It was hard to market, hard to explain to potential users, used differently in live vs studio set-ups, had a poorly written manual, and honestly IMO not a very pretty controller.

Now I fear Reaktor, at one time their flagship product, may be next.

Kore's light show was too subtle for the instant gratification crowd. And it didn't gratify instantly. It required work, understanding and the application of thought. It was not 'bang a button and get a beat'.

Kore was like that 'difficult' album, the one that you didn't like at first (Trout Mask Replica, perhaps) but thought you'd work at. Then it became (and remains) your favourite. So much better than the fluff you liked first time and were bored of by the second.

It also has a touch of blue cheese about it.

But using Kore feels more like I'm recording Mirror Man - perfect on the first try :)

I share your fear. I think NI is quickly becoming a provider for DJ tools. NI, be careful what you ask for, because you may get it all.....

I guess that a business has to chase the $ in these hard times but I'd be very surprised if Reaktor bites the dust anytime soon - NI have already, recently, stated that the use Reaktor for internal concept testing/proofing.

I still find it odd that NI won't sell me licenses for Kore packs which are digital downloads - they have these on servers as archives for existing users, I'm sure they can raise an invoice for a sale but apparently not :-(

I agree it's strange to discontinue digital products entirely, especially if they aren't actually tied to any specific CPU architecture. The Kore packages will work as long as Kore still runs (which includes current beta operating systems). Do they hate money? :p

I don't get that as a business strategy - sure, development costs compared to returns might have led to the Kore discontinuation but why stop the Kore packs which will work with full and player versions; the comments about licensing are plain laughable in my eyes - if there were third-party ownership issues then I'm sure we'd be seeing some of these people selling-off their packs independently, afterall, why should they lose ot on the time and money they invested 'cus NI are having a hard time with their application?

I can't tell which Kore packs were, partly, ported over to their host apps (Massive, Absynth, Kontakt, etc) as part of the Maschine integration but this proves that NI, in part, retained some ownership of the content.

At least NI, seemingly, are repeating themselves with Maschine: many people asking for features that aren't included, being ignored in the process and now NI are deadly silent - not to mention a poor number of add-on packs and, unlike Kore, some stiff industry competition from the likes of Akai.

On one hand, I am loathed to spend another penny on NI products - on the other, it'll be a sad day if NI don't come-back strong with something soon. It seems too many people are now being affected by their recent behaviour and I don't see anything like this on other forums relating to the industry in general or other companies products.
This is, of course, entirely my opinion and none of the above should be taken as anything else but.

Just got a Kore 2. Very pleased with it. And NI will not sell me a Soundpack? That's a very bizarre business. They must be mad!

Kore was filling in a very obvious gap in the market. Sure, it wasn't perfect, but it was the best option out there. In contrast Maschine is based on an existing concept that others have implemented in the past and more will implement in the future. It appears that more and more competition is the news of the day for Maschine. If I was NI, I would fire the Marketing and Product Management officers!. Poor judgement and poor business acumen.

Agreed - it was a very poor decision - Kore was a unique product and although several have some similarities nothing is really that much like it - if NI had put more energy into marketing and developing it, it would have been far more successful but they let it die on the vine really

I fully agree. So much potential lost, by completely quitting the concept, instead of temporarily concentrate on other markets more. Let it die completely was plain stupid, IMHO.

Even more so was the way it was handled, really. Still upsets me, how things were handled by NI... And still are with other products...

I love that Maschine has been REALLY stagnant since the 1.6 update to bring-us VST integration (a-la Kore) (1.7 was just a browser for Komplete8).

1 or 2 sound packs (might be more, 3 maybe...) and no real announcements. A LONG string of Maschine owners frantic for news on what's going on and no update for over a year.... hmmm, can anybody smell that... repetition...

It's a shame that NI are doing this. If Maschine had been just a Groovebox and not touted as the Kore replacing, Traktor-tagging , Komplete integrating unit it is now then maybe NI wouldn't be needing to batten-down the hatches whilst prodding Keir to stumble out to the baying public with nothing to say (sorry Keir, I know it's not your fault).

One thing is for sure - NI NEED to do something soon. Their history of hardware devices is less than reassuring (now we have sales on their current audio interace and no less than 5 current interfaces for 'current' products - Maschine & Mikro, S2, S4 and F1).

Since the Kore kancellation, I've found myself using Komplete 7 products less, Kore a little more but I've definitely found myself out of the computer more, focussing on h/w - maybe I should thank NI?

Me too. That wasn't the plan but that's how it's worked out. Last couple of projects I only used the DAW to capture audio. Didn't host anything.

Currently watching the Muse Receptor people to see if the Receptor VIP (plus Komplete) turns up in a shop somewhere. It's been a loooooooooooong wait for the MuseBox - these people have form for getting a bit ahead of themselves with announcements.

Ive been trying to read many pages of this topic this night.

I share with you all my best thoughts working with kore. In spain, we were many people using it and...

we wont leave it for the moment...

I cannot wait to another product similar to kore... kore is original, its full of creation capacities.

    Regards
