KU10 update pricing is unreasonable

Sorry for posting this here, I couldn't find a more apropos sub-forum. If there is one could a mod move this post? Gracias.

As someone who forked over some serious dollars recently to upgrade from K8 to K9U I'm finding the $400USD price-tag for a KU10 update a little bit beyond unreasonable. Has it even been a year since KU9 was released? I typically always keep the software that I use on a frequent basis updated, but being that I just handed NI a large chunk of change -- not to mention that I've been a very loyal, vocal and proselytizing advocate of almost everything they make for years -- this really hurts. After purchasing Komplete 8, Maschine MKI, Traktor S2, K9U and a large number of expansions this mildly interesting "update" feels like it is proposing consent of savage anal rape on an old faithful friend. Plus, the update price is the same for KU2-9 owners? This isn't helping me feel better. Pleeeeease NI, consider your current loyal following, especially the KU9 owners, and give us this moderately interesting update for something more like $199 max. I don't really have much interest in more pianos, but even still, with "Komplete" stickers on my laptop and car bumpers I'd really like to think that I have a friend out there, not someone asking for roughly half the price of a new computer for an update to software that I just recently purchased.

    Cheers,

    J

Wow! I didn't believe you but I went and checked it out myself and yes, that is very steep for an upgrade from Komplete Ultimate 9 to Komplete Ultimate 10. The funny thing is that I **** money, and that's pretty steep even for my standards. You're really not getting much more in Komplete 10 Ultimate that you don't have already. Good luck on getting the pricing lowered to something that seems more fair in your case. I don't see it happening.

I sh*t money as well, but even if I somehow felt compelled to fork over this kind of cash for what is offered in this "update" I would feel a bit like a fool, even more-so when I decide that most of the sparse content offered, which I don't already own (I bought Drum Studio among others when they came out for example) would sit in a pile. I'm thinking "no thanks this year" which actually makes me a bit sad because Komplete is one of the few things I've bought that I use almost daily. So much of it is amazingly useful to my creative hobby, such as FM8, Massive, Absynth, Monarch and tons of Reactor and Kontact ensembles. Where exactly does $400 worth of value in this "update from previous KU9" exist in this release? It should have more or be priced closer to $150 or $199, even if I have to download the content via the internet.

I'm just really unpleasantly surprised that they want $400USD for me to stay current with their flagship compilation, which is largely composed of components that I have already purchased (drum lab is kind-of fun) or things that I feel are already well represented in KU9, such as additional pianos.

Please NI, offer a low cost upgrade path for those of us who purchased or upgraded to KU9. This is not a $400USD worthy update for those of us who purchased KU9. I talk you guys up to everyone that I know and I now see myself peeling the Komplete sticker off of my car bumper and ceasing being a freelance evangelist for the greatest synth company on the planet, I'm not feeling like I'm being treated respectfully, especially what is being offered in KU10. Between purchasing K8, KU9, countless expansions, Machine MKI and a Traktor S2 this "update" is not at all appealing at this price-point and being a stupit NI fanboi I'm feeling like I need to re-evaluate my love for Komplete as a value proposition. I mean, $400USD is roughly half the price of a new computer, and while those 4 synths + more pianos might sound great, I feel like it is perhaps time to switch teams. :(

I will not update, just because I do not need any of the new plugins, they do not arouse my interest, and the new look if the website is not right up my alley at all, too, the ole one was a lot better and clearer.

Important things to keep in mind: Comparing it to 'rape' implies that you have no choice. You don't have to be raped in this case. If you have indeed been a loyal customer for years, you would know that you only have to wait a few months for the price to drop. At some point it will be half price which is probably more in line with what most people want to pay. I have used Komplete since version 7 and it is my own personal philosophy to update every second version and when there is a sale. This represents incredible value for money.

If you upgrade your K9U to K10 regular, you would keep all the big "extra" stuff that you already have in K9U, but you will get most of the new instruments. Unfortunately not Molekular, but anyway, its more of reasonable price. 199.

I also believe that for already customers,NI OVERPRICED the Komplete 10 series.it would more honorable to give a better discount for customers that already paid an big amount of euros in several products of their own.also a big question.why dollars and euros have the same currency?499 dollars=499euros..europeans are for sure underestimated customers

Still don't know what to do with 90% of K9U. Looks like most of us will wait for a half price option because I agree the RRP isn't just steep, it's F'ing vertical. (In the words of Rik Mayall)

Man, thank you for adding a sane perspective to really silly hyperbole. I take the same approach as you and I know that in a few months I'll have an update from K9U to K10U for a fantastic price. Maybe even as soon as black Friday.

Yeah I don't think they'll discount upgrades to K10U as soon as Black Friday. Too soon. Perhaps on spring or Easter or the next summer sale...

The phrase I used was along the lines of "consensual savage anal rape" with the "consensual" part indicating that I do indeed have a choice, but as a hardcore NI evangelist and fan boi I feel put in an "uncomfortable position." Sorry about the graphic depiction, I have a habit of amusing myself by making intelligent statements that contain a dash of stupidity. Boobs.

Firstly, rape is not consentual--that's what the word means. Secondly, if you think the price is too steep, either wait a couple of months till there's a sale or just don't buy it. I mean, get a grip.

Komplete is the discount. Usually twice a year there's a discount on the discount. And it's true, NI focuses more on new customers then old customers. You shouldn't buy every Komplete unless you need every version, most products are in the next Komplete.
And if you're not in a hurry and want to save money, wait til the summer discount, every year the upgrades are 50% off.

You already get free updates for all the software in K9U until a next version is launched, no need to buy the next Komplete in your case. I still get free updates for the stuff that's in Komplete 7, even got Transient Attacks etc for free.

The European prices are probably higher then the American prices because of ridiculously low wages in the US compared to cost of living, (meaning the poor in the US can spend less on software) and lower taxes, which makes it cheaper to run a company.

You get Rounds, Kontour, Polyplex, the Grandeur, the Maverick, the Gentleman, Drumlab, Session Horns, Supercharger and Driver for $200. That's worth around $700, you're being unrealistic.

If you want it, buy it and pay for it. If you don't want to pay for it, don't buy it. It's not a necessity. Your life won't be blighted without it. As Niels said, it's good value. A company can't make a special price for everyone, depending on what stuff they have. And again, as Niels said, you're being unrealistic.

Then don't buy it unless you really want the new stuff.
The pianos and Reaktor ensembles cost over $400, so it's over $200 off, that's more then 50%.
With NI you either need to buy products seperately, or in a bundle, if you do both you pay a lot extra to use products sooner.

I prefer Waves and VSL upgrade paths though, they did develope a system where the discount is based on everything you own that's in the bundle you want to upgrade to.
And they have a lot of sales, and don't discontinue products :))

I am not really wondering about the price of K10U, because you get your value out of it. I am more wondering about the pricing for the Komplete Kontrol Series. 699 Euro for a 61keys controller. I have not found a more expensive controller here.
