KU10 update pricing is unreasonable

You're right, it's possible, Waves does it too. NI doesn't, and the advantage for us is that we can wait a few years before we buy an upgrade, the price will be the same and we'll get more.

 

Most of the libraries I buy only work in the full version of Kontakt. If you buy Kontakt Player libraries you pay for Player compatibility and copyright protection technology for every library. And if Kontakt dies you loose access to the samples because they're encrypted.

 

If the upgrades do not add up incrementally in costs if I skip a version that does seem a little bit more fair. This upgrade at $400 is a definite pass!

 

Doesn't matter if you have Komplete 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 or 9, upgrade to 10 is €200 and to 10U is €700. Upgrade from K8U or K9U to K10U both is €400. And there's nothing besides the 4 classical pianos that was in K9U that's not in K10U. But these were in Komplete 4 to 9 anyway and the Steinway, Boesendorfer and Upright are in the Kontakt Factory as a light version. Less samples, no overtone script.

 

I just looked at K10 and didn't see anything I absolutely can't live without.
So, I'll just wait. Perhaps if I had a money tree growing in my back yard, I'd just pick it up.

A little quick math tells me that the individual prices of the new products are considerably more than the cost of the upgrade.

Perhaps the price is not as steep as it seems.

 

Indeed! Komplete 9-to-Komplete 10 gets you 10 new products, $712 dollars worth of software for $199 USD. Komplete 9 Ultimate-to-Komplete 10 Ultimate gets you 14 new products valued at $1955 for only $399 USD.

If you're not going to use any of it, obviously don't buy it- but even if you only use 1/4 of the new packages, you're saving money with the upgrade.

 

I think you can call a price unreasonable if it is something you need and can ill afford- and if you believe need it, then you ought to re-examine your abilities. Its a luxury, a toy- you can either indulge or not. No musician needs new plug-ins.
