    Hi, fellas...

I'm looking for a laptop (minimum weight and maximum battery life) for running windows 10 while the lid is closed. I want to do a "piece" of hardware with maschine mk2 or mk3, closed laptop and maybe some refrigerators in between them to below the laptop.

    Hope I'm explaining well.

The main issue I'm considering it's the temperature. Dell xps 13 lasts above 12 hours but don't know if it's bad for the computer to be closed while Fingerdrumming with the maschine connected to it. Mostly drum kits, addictive drums or superior drummer.

Was looking for mpc live but can't run vst's in standalone mode.

If some tablet or ultra book can do the job I'm intended to do, I'm open to it. Mikro mk3 would do the job as I will use almost solely pad work. As a said, the lesser size and weight, the better. With 5-6 hours of real battery life I would be happy.

    Best wishes, friends

I'm not sure why having the screen closed or not would make a difference to the laptop overheating. As long as you have decent airflow around the laptop, any laptop that can run Maschine fine will still be able to run Maschine fine with the lid closed.

It makes a difference depending on the laptop but it shouldn't be an issue unless the laptop is already prone to overheating / thermal throttling, the reason is simple, if the top part of the laptop gets hot as the computer gets hot covering it decreases heat dissipation.

Not sure about Maschine on UltraBooks, their focus is being thin, light and having long-lasting batteries, all these things sacrifice performance by nature. You might be better off with a notebook instead of an ultrabook on the same price range.
