    Hello,
First I have to say that I'm sorry for my bad english skills.

Alright, I'm new to Guitar Rig and I just tested the demo version.
First, there was a horrible problem with my soundcard.
I'm using a Soundblaster Live 5.1. The Sound coming from GR-Demo
was terrible. Zsssssing-Fizzzling all the time.
Only with a setting of 400ms Latency the sound was clear (but wonderful)

Then I installed ASIO4ALL and I was able to reduce Latency down to 24ms. But its too slow.

Maybe somone of you can give me the value of your Latency with GR2 and Rig Kontrol.
And it would be nice if you tell me if the time/latency could be as fast (the feeling) as when you're using an default amp without GR2.

    I've a second question:
I read somewhere in this forums that there are other soundcards with better quality than with Rig Kontrol.
Could you please give me some examples of Soundcards with same fast latencys as the Rig Kontrol but better quality? :)

    Third an dlast question:
What is the output Latency with Rig Kontrol with good quality?
Is it 5ms or less? What is the lowest Value ever?

Yeah, told you, I'm very sorry for my bad english!!

    good day, LeOC

Cannot anyone tell me what the output latency value of his Guitar Rig 2 with Rig Kontrol.
And which latency is the max. to have a realistic feeling?

    Please be patient...
A Creative Soundblaster card will not work with Guitar Rig, or any other professional music software either for that matter. Just forget about it; it is for games and CD playback. Perhaps the most recent Audigy will work, but for the price you can buy a proper card aimed at musicians, from other manufacturers. Many here use mAudio, Edirol (Roland) ESI, E-mu ... Often this will be a an external box, connected with Firewire or perhaps USB2. I use a mAudio FW 410 (external), and have 5 ms latency. In the real world (where you also have latency!) you can compare this to a trumpet; 5 ms is the same amount of time it takes from the player's lips starts vibrating and until the sound comes out at the end of the horn. Nobody complains about that!? (hence 10 ms equals a trombone, 20 ms a Bb tuba). If you are used to standing 2 m away from your amp, moving it 5 m away will be an added latency of +5 ms. Surley most of us can adapt to that.
The built in soundcard in RK2 promise a latency of 3 - 6 ms. However, many have problems with noises appearing when using it. It seems like a driver problem or something inside the RK2? I'm one of them, so for now I use the mAudio card for input/output, and RK2 as a controller. It works VERY well, and GR2 has thousands of cool sounds waiting to be utilized. As always, with ANY guitar effects (pedals, rack) you will need to spend some time tweaking and adjusting it to get the sounds that you need and are satisfied with. It is extremely flexible, but still not to everyone's taste. If you really don't like anything you hear, you should of course look elsewhere. But the performance issues can be solved.

I use ESI ESP1010 sound card. It is great with GR2! Latency 5ms.

Thanks. That was all information I needed!
Very good explaination about Trumpet and latency. :)

I never thougth that Soundblaster is made for something like that.
That's why I asked for other cards.

Now I know what I have to search! Thanks!

I am aware of the KX project, and that those drivers makes it possible to use Soundblaster cards with acceptable latency. But they have an analog part too; the analog to digital and digital to analog conversion quality simply isn't up to par. Things improved greatly with the Audigy 2 card, but anything preceeding that... uh-uh. It could work as a practice solution though. It's hard to read 'sound quality' from the specs. Indeed I thought my Audigy 2 sounded really OK until I got my mAudio card. They have about the same specs on paper, but the sound from the mAudio has so much more BODY and fullness, and it is also dead quiet.

    Hi Fill,

Yes, I accept your observation on quality, and I only use my SBLive for 'practice'. That is a slightly different point to what you stated, though... but yes, you are correct to recommend a higher spec sound card!

    Regards,

    Keith

Untill I pick up my M-Audio delta 1010 interface, here is what I'm using... I get pretty good results.

    ASIO4ALL
    M-audio Transit (Input)
    Sound Blaster Live (Output)

Never have any problems recording, I use sonar, about 5 to 8 instances of guitar rig, 2 instances for battery, Reverbs, compressors, noise ruduction, and a mastering plugin...

When playing back sound however, I must sometimes turn the samples up in ASIO4ALL so the soundblaster can take it.

Before that I use just the soundblaster and managed to get it to do what I needed somehow. So... anyone determined enough CAN get these cards to work. But non the less, a better sound card is well worth it .

I use my Soundblaster for Input and Output.
And I'm able to turn down the latency to 2-5 ms but it sounds .... weird.
The minimum value is 11 ms there are many snaps for example.

But I'll try kXProject. Thanks for the hint!
