    G'day all,

I'm trying to find info on the Komplete Kontrol series with the Light Guide to learn a song.

Is there a way to get the Light Guide to show which notes are being played in a MIDI sequence?

Before I order one of these keyboards it'd be great to know if this is a basic or missing feature. (Seems like it would be one of the main reasons to have coloured LED's on a keyboard)

    Thanks for reading.

    Cheers!

    Yes and no....

There is no inbuilt teaching functionality in the KK software for this so don't expect this kind of thing out the box.

However, when you haver it connected to a (supported) DAW then midi feedback from the selected track will be sent to the keyboard and the light guide will illuminate the playing notes. I cannot say this is the case for every DAW, but using Ableton Live it is possible to have a MIDI pattern on a track send MIDI data out to illuminate the keys while you can then follow if you wanted playing the instrument on another track. I did have this setup some time ago as an example but it kind of means you need to know how to rout MIDI in and out of your DAWs channels already to do it.

It has been requested as a feature to be inside KK but I wouldn't hold hope on that ever being considered.

Thanks for the response to my question.
I thought it would be a super basic function, but looking at what the KK controllers can do it's easy to see where the development focus was when it was created. (Far more sophisticated things than MIDI triggering lights)
I'm looking at a guide on YouTube from 2019 that explains how to get this to work with Synthesia on a Mac but I'm not sure I need to, or want to go down that path if it's still the same process now in 2021.
So much potential in these controllers, just like most musical things. Now it's just a matter of working out how to unleash it's full creative potential!.
I just picked up the KK S49 mk2 from my local store and it's surprising to see the LED's on all the time, the contrast difference to the triggered note isn't enough. It should be virtually "Off" and then 100% when triggered. (Different topic I'll have to research though)
    Thanks again :)

I found a solution by using Komplete Kontrol as the instrument plugin in Logic Pro and dragging in a MIDI file and setting the FIXED VEL/Ts Mode on the keyboard. That way I can hear the MIDI notes being triggered and see the LED's light up and play over the top of them.

Next thing will be to work out how to set the LED colours. Something like Orange for left hand and Blue for right would be cool.

    Time to do more experimenting.
