    Hi,

It seems that I may have to replace the hard drive in my laptop and am worried about implications for my GR2 license when I will reinstall it on the new drive. I would appreciate any info on how I should proceed in order to keep my license intact (ie. still be able to install GR2 on a second computer in the future).

    Thanx in advance.

I think, from memory, it's fairly easy. You go to the licence page for your account and choose to replace your existing activation with your new one. i.e. you deactivate one activation and enable your new one.

    Yes,

Simply "deactivate" your license before replacing your hard drive. This will allow you to keep your authorization counts in order.

Marc, this makes me ask you .....

    Just to make sure --

So, Marc, is it the case that installing GR3 on a different boot up hard drive will require a new authorization, even if connected to the same computer?

Why is that? Isn't the need for a new authorization based on the CPU fingerprint, not the boot hard drive?

I just want to make sure, since I too am contemplating getting a new internal hd for my MacBook, and want to be 100% clear on what I'll have to do in term of the impact of the change on authorizations of my NI stuff including GR3 (GR3, K3, Battery 3, Bandstand, Pro 53).

I don't want to do anything I don't need to -- like deauthorizing before putting in the new HD, and run the risk of thereby creating new problems -- "if it ain't broke....."

I'll be cloning my old drive with SuperDuper onto my backup drive, and then restoring that clone copy of the old drive onto the new HD.

So, will the authorizations from the old internal HD copy over if I do this, eliminating any need to authorize once everything is transferred over to the new HD?

OR, will authorizations on the new HD be required (even though it's in the same MacBook), so we'll have to do what you said above, and deauthorize the old HD before doing the swap and the final back up of it, and then authorize once everything is transferred over to the new HD (so as to keep our authorization count at 2)?

This is of course very important to me so I really appreciate your answering this.

    Thanks very much in advance!

As far as I know, the systemID's made of the CPU, the mainboard, the system drive, the OS and the install date of the OS. Changing your boot drive will result in a new systemID.

And, you don't deauthorize yourself anymore; NI and the Service Center do that.

Exactly how do you deactivate with SC? Do you delete the Activation Key and click Apply, or what?

Now I understand why a new ID is generated simply by replacing the boot drive, since it's part of what makes up the ID.

So, to be clear, my question is --

-- Do I first de-authorize all my NI software via Service Center
-- Then install the new HD, and restore to it the clone of the old drive
-- Then re authorize all my NI software via Service Center?

Thanks. Just want to know the exact steps to do when I make the switch to a new internal hard drive for my MacBook, so as to minimize authorization hassles. Thanks again.

    Hi,

first of all, it is not necessary to deactivate an old hardware profile anymore, just install and activate again when you have replaced the boot drive. I would choose the following order, especially if you are a Komplete 4 owner:

    - Install all your software from the original discs

    - Update everything to the latest versions

    - Run Service Center and activate

Depending on the product version you have, you will need to enter new serials for a couple of programs (EP 1.5, Pro-53 R2, Vokator R2 and Spektral Delay R2) during activation. These serials can be found in your user account if you have installed them earlier.
