    hællo!

I just wanted to inform you about a
place were you can get free samples
    (you can donate money)

I got the link from sonic control

    It`s basicaally percussion instruments, organ++
recorderd in a church. The Darbuka is in
kontakt format, the rest in giga, but I`ve had
    no problem using those aswell.

It`s made by composer Tobias Merberger

    here`s the link: http://62.13.11.115/gtown/

if this link doesn`t work, just go to sonic controls kontakt forum
and have a look for it there

    peace

Thanks for the generous offer. Unfortunately, I am unable to access your samples. The Winrar stuffed files will not unstuff on my G3. I have all the usual compressions programs including Macrar, but nothing works. I have to say that this is an ongoing problem and appeal to those who use Winrar to give us Mac guys a clue how to access them. I've never been able to yet, and I am a fairly experienced user.
A few questions on another note:
Why do you seek sounds with ambience when it is so easy to add it (and very nicely) after the fact? My philosophy is, you can always add ambience, but you can never take it away.
Also, I was wondering why the file size is so large. For example, a snare drum at 36mb is surprising - and when it is 36mb compressed that is really hard to figure out.
Nevertheless, I do really appreciate that you (and some others) have gone to the trouble to make your sounds accessible. It speaks volumes about who you are and I hope my questions are not taken as complaining, simply as curiosity.
    thanks again

The Samples sound great, although they are a little bit to big. I'm glad I have a DSL. :)

Most stuff isn't in RAR - they are gigasampler files. They work fine in Kontakt 1.2.

I played a bit with the sounds and they are very expressive and have a lot of character, albeit suiting particular styles of music more than others.

From what I've seen in the Kontakt version, the size is mainly due to a very high sampling rate and the use of stereo files,as well as recording the reverb decay. I would have liked the phrases that some instruments contain to be in seperate files to decrease the instrument size and I'd have liked to have seen some 'kits' containing percussion instruments.

Having said that, it is clear that a lot of work went into this and it's all to easy to adapt the instruments.

About the natural reverb / digital reverb argument... I guess there's added complexity to natural reverb, so including it does add character. To be honest, though, I'm not sure if I could detect it. Even so - it does mean a lesser burden on the cpu.

I think I got to much credit here, the link was just something I stumbled acrooss at sonic control. I think you have to adress
the problem with winrar to the creator Tobias Merberger.

I was personally surprised by the quality of the instruments,
especially the darbuka. I am currently saving money for
some quite expensive sound libraries (I don`t use pirate copies)
so this kind of offers are more than welcome.
If anybody else has any other good links, feel free to post.

    peace

wow, those are nice, so far as i've gotten!

one question - on the hi-hat, the closed hat should cutoff the open hats - but they don't. what's the proper or most efficient way to setup the open hat key to drop out when the closed hat or the foot hat plays?
    thanks
