When I open up the Basic Kit, everything comes up as I would expect it to. Each drum has it's own cell, clicking that cell plays the sound loaded to it.

When I load up, say, the Heavy Rock Kit, clicking on any cell in a given column plays every cell in that column.

    My question is:

Why is this kit (and others like it) set up in this way, using multiple cells bound to the same key for the same hit?

    Thanks.

These are the 'multi-mic' kits - each row in the kit represents a different mic source used to take the sample in that row from that drum's hit. If you solo the different rows in turn, you'll here the difference in sound in that sample resulting from that particular 'mic'. At default, you're hearing full output from all 'mics'.

Theoretically lets you play at being 'Studio Engineer', mixing the different 'mics' to get the exact sound you want. Though limited in actual use, IMHO - better to identify specific samples for each drum that suit the track(s) you're working on.

    Thanks, again, for the response.

Ah, I see. That makes sense. It was a little odd at first.

I agree though, I think it would be better just to pick the right sample for the track outright.
