    Before you start:
    - Yes, I did use the search function.
    - Yes, I did intend to post in the previous thread, but it is a couple of months old and most of all it's CLOSED. It does not state a reason why it's closed and the discussion was not done yet. So I'm bringing this up again!

    Here's the thread I found: http://www.native-instruments.com/forum/showthread.php?t=127857

Now that this is out of the way, let me elaborate on this feature suggestion:

In essence, this feature would allow one to link various tracks with each other. As explained in the topic I linked above, this is especially useful when you come across a spontaneous mixover that sounds particularly well.

Personally, my reasoning for this feature isn't so much the spontaneous side of it, as has been argued at length in that topic. The reason I would like this feature is so that I can have easy access to information to steer my live mix in multiple directions.

A live mix is influenced by how the audience responds to it. You may be wearing them out too quickly, or you may want to drastically switch things up a little. Having "suggestions" on what the next track could be, allows you to choose between keeping the mix rolling, going to a high-profile track or take the crowd down deep. After linking quite a few tracks you will have a network of links that allow you to change the mood of the mix depending on the response from the audience, using tracks that all mix really well into one another.

    Thanks for your time.

I completely get this feature. When I used to pack my record bag, I grabbed tracks in groups of 3. The track I wanted, A track that builds off that 1, a track that drops off that one. I may not play those other 2 tracks, but they're there for me to bounce off what I had planned at home and go in a new direction based on the crowd. With thousands of tracks in my library i'd be great for my library to show me "linked" tracks.

Of course this'd probably be a total nightmare to program.

    No.

I don't think this would be a nightmare to program. It would involve keeping a table in the database that is purely relational, i.e. linking ID of Track A to multiple IDs of Track Bs. An option in the context-menu would be available to let you hook tracks up with each other. The order is important though, as Track A may mix nicely to Track B but not necessarily the other way around.

The point here is that you as the deejay find these transitions and this would allow you to memorize it.

Thanks for your replies so far.

Prepare your music before a gig then. Going digital changes nothing.

It changes the fact you cannot physically group tracks, therefore there is a request for a feature to do it digitally.

You can group them in playlists far better than you could ever do physically.

Are you suggesting that I should create a playlist for every set of tracks that mix over nicely to accommodate for this feature request?

-1000 losing the actual skill of djing, if you do not know which tracks to select and cannot read the crowd, then you should sell your decks and move on......... [Edited: Count Zero]

@Il Ectreau. You do not need to address other members of the forum in the manner that you did. I have deleted your post.

I think [chris b] means that you can put a track in more than one playlist but you can only put a record in one crate.

Although to be honest I can't see any problem with anything that makes grouping tracks together better and more intuitive - you are only using information that is already there: this track goes with that track in a certain context. I would welcome such a feature.

i would love to see such feature as well. for those that say this would be to let traktor dj for you, i would clarify that it would be more like traktor learning how YOU dj and afterwards, helping you remind previous mixes you did.

djing with a digital music library is not the same as djing with physical (and very limited) record crates. we are using a lot more music and our minds have limits.

i would consider this feature as one more way to help a dj, as the sync feature is:
    - it was not possible before, but it is now. why don't make it?
    - it will certainly help.
    - that 'monster' will feed from your way to work.
    - at last, you can choose to use it or not.
