I know it's highly unlikely, but in the absence of an even more unlikely prospect - a native Linux version, it'd be really nice if the developers could spend a little time helping Traktor Scratch Pro to run under Wine. Apparently some versions of Traktor 3.x worked, but Traktor Scratch Pro is a complete no-go due to the Themida protection. The sad part is, that Themida themselves actually mention Wine support in their change-logs, so the solution may not even be too difficult to implement.

I know the alternative (a virtual machine), and have had it working under one almost flawlessly in the past, but to achieve adequate performance, the system and software configuration has to be tailored and tweaked to perfection (a time-consuming task) - something which Ubuntu (as one of the most popular distributions) at least doesn't provide with a standard installation.

The potential user-base may not warrant looking at a native port, but from what I've seen I'd say it does suggest Wine support worthy of consideration, especially with Linux-based operating systems now a genuinely viable platform for mainstream audio work, as opposed to just a few short years ago.

    I wholeheartedly second this idea!

While I, too, would much prefer a native Linux port, making Traktor usable in Wine would be fine, as well.

Linux in general has the stability of OS X (actually moreso) coupled with the fact that the OS itself generally costs nothing, installation and use is painless these days (distros like Ubuntu and it's variants have changed the landscape for potential Linux users) and not being tied to the overpriced Apple hardware tyranny is a huge plus.

    Fingers crossed...

    Thanks!

    I second that motion.

Traktor is the only application that keeps me from a complete switch to Linux.
An article titled "How to tweak Linux to perfection for Traktor inside VirtualBox" should be released ;)

Same here. This and Ableton are all that prevent me. I use Ubuntu Netbook on my netbook, I use Oo_Org, GIMP, Inkscape, Audacity etc. at work and home already. With the release of Lucid, people are going to want to use Linux more and more.

    i second this motion.

i use traktor 3 in wine and would never touch windows and a mac is out of my price range.

i would certainly buy traktor pro if i could get it for wine.

I'm glad to let you know that Traktor 3.4.1 now runs on Wine 1.2-rc3. I'm running it on Ubuntu 10.04. Linux kernel is 2.6.32.22-generic.
