In a live environment, using Guitar Rig, is it best to go through my current guitar AMP on clean setting with traditional Celestion cabinets as I have it? Or is it best to just go through full range speakers through the board? Or?

Best practices in a live environment anyone?

Your ears decide: bad cabinet = use cabinet simulation.

But I'm just wondering what other users are typically using. I mean, it seems like double effort putting them thru 12" guitar cabinets, but then again it feels un-natural putting it thru mains.

I run my set up through the PA and bring along a couple powered speakers for stage volume, using regular amp and speaker cabs color the sound so much that its not worth using amp modeling software.

    IMHO

So you don't use any modeling stuff for live... Correct?

    Perhaps I was not clear,
it is ALL modeling and I use flat response powered speakers to hear my guitar on stage (instead of the usual amp head and speaker cab) and also run my signal straight to the mixer board, sound guys love it, no mic'ing the amp and they have better control of the volume.
    Works great, sounds great!

One other question (that may be answered with your picture response), are the speakers 12" guitar speakers or full range standard?

You can use whatever size needed for the situation, if you just need stage volume for you, you can get away with a smaller size and just point it at you from the side or back or whatever. If you need to have be more like a guitar amp for everyone else to hear, I would use a (and do use) a 15 inch powered monitor. It is still smaller than the average guitar cabinet and if you get one with plastic molding, pretty easy to carry.
They come in all sizes and price ranges, the good thing is even cheaper ones will at least sound ok because most of the tone comes from modeling. The more expensive ones will indeed sound better but if you are on a budget you can get a decent one for under 200 bucks, a good one for under 300 bucks and a great one for 400 or more.

Just to make sure (and I appreciate the responses), for the 15 inch, you're not suggesting a single 15 inch speaker are you? Or are you suggesting a full range small little monitor cabinet that contains small horn / tweeter with bass / midrange?

Full range, 15 or 12 for the big one, there is usually at least a tweeter to help fill out the sound. Do a search for powered speakers at musicians friend or guitar center they have a wide variety.

I use two Fullrange 12" Active speakers (300W) from Behringer, the cheap ones (EUROLIVE F1320D). Sounds great especially for stereo setups. For smaller gigs its loud enough without further PA. For bigger gigs they are great, because i can use them as monitor for just myself or as regular monitor over the P.A., thats matters on the given stage.

Nice, I've been using a pair of Peavey PR 15D in exactly the same way, been using them for years with no problems, except they are grey, my next pair will be black.... cuz its cooler. :)

Nice Thom quote by the way, love Radiohead.
