    Ok guys,

this is something i normaly dont share, but today i will make an exception for you guys. This is the liveset i performed on the 12th of April in Berlin @ the psychedelic Kitchen Party. Let me explain some things before you listen and watch the set. For 15 years i was performing only with hardware and i have never used any software. This year at the Namm i was hoping for a new MPC and i already had the money ready to buy it. But as you all know - there was no MPC but Maschine was announced. I was so excited with this new Concept that i decided to switch to software and i sold all of my gear (Machinedrum, Acidlab, 808,...) and i bough Maschine, the Audio Kontrol1, the MPD32 and Ableton Live 7. So i had 4 weeks to learn Maschine and Ableton and also to programm a new liveset for that gig. As you can probably see i love to take a challenge and this one was a lot of fun actually. Ok, so the setup on that night was obviously Maschine and Ableton Live 7. I did all of the Drums and FX with Maschine and i also used a custom made template to Control Ableton and especially the 2 plugins i used inside Ableton - NI´s Massive for all of my Synth Sounds and Phoscyon for the Acid Part. To keep it short - it was a blast. So if you like strange Techno / Acid / Experimental Stuff, feel free to download this set. Best of all - its not only just the audio - it also comes with the amazing live visuals done by uli sigg who is one of the best video artists worldwide. So let me know what you guys think about it.

To download this little set (760 MB) just right click on the link and then save to your harddrive:

I also included a picture of that night ;)

    Hey Allen,

the Laptop is a MacBook Pro 2,4 GHz, 4GB Ram, 320 GB HDD running at 7.200rpm, OS-X 10.5.6 and Coolbook to clock the CPU at full speed. Beside the fact that i was pretty drunk and the set was normaly planed for 30 minutes, but DJ Tanith was late, so i had to play 1,5 hours, everything was fine and i was pretty pleased that software is so nice on stage.

    Cheers

lol, that happens if your girl buys a digicam and insists to do all the settings herself. But besides her technical skillz, shes the best :D

Awesome tuff, just wondering how you feel about the sound/ samples of the maschine. Does it feel as thick to you as the drum patterns you were getting out of the macheindrum? And how do the software filters compare?

    Hey evan,

i am pretty happy with the sound of the samples. In fact i think if you have a good bassdrum sample - it sounds way phater than on the machinedrum but you cant really compare them. The MD has an awesome interface and is pretty nice to perform with but i never fall in love with the sound itself as its too much digital for my personal taste.

Thast was I was thinking so far, the maschine defiently seems to have a digital feel and not as thick as outboard equipment, but I think that should be fine for drum programming. The bassline and leads and such I am thinking is best so far using other equipment, but I did buy it mainly for drum programming so i am happy as the other pieces are just extra fun :)

Thanks for sharing this. I'm interested to know what your CPU was reading and maxing out at during the set. I have a very fast desktop that I'm using to run Maschine inside of Ableton. The computer can handle virtually any number of plugins, but when I load up Maschine with a couple of group kits, the CPU skyrockets. In some cases Maschine eats 45% ALONE with 2 or 3 artist kits resulting in nasty pops and clicks...

    Hey griz,

the CPU was on an average at 40%. I had 6 Groups loaded, Ableton 8 as the Host, one instance of Massive and one instance of Phoscyon. I used 6 different FX on the Groups and Master. The trick for me is not to use the artist kits, as they often make extensive use of fx. I do my own kits and then use only the fx that i really need for the performance. This helps a lot to keep the CPU down and i also overclocked the CPU so it doesnt speedstep.

    Cheers

Thanks for the response. Very good to know! Some artists kits use way more CPU than others. Keeping it simple is definitely key.

What soundcard are you using and what are the latency buffers set at?

Im using an NI Audio Kontrol 1, buffers are set to 128 on an average. I can go a lot lower but i feel pretty confident with 128 Buffers.
