Absolutely fantastic! Works perfectly! Thanks so much for taking the time to do this - made my day! Cheers! I owe you a beer!
I can now use MainStage auto sampler to archive my modular patches/sketches easily - previously it took ages to edit the loop points and crop the samples - it was very rarely worth the effort. This is amazing.... I’m chuffed!

can't find any files named KConvert on Mac. maybe it's a different name on Mac, do you have any idea how should I proceed from here?

Unfortunately I don't know how it is on Mac. I would have hoped that the filename is the same regardless of the platform, seems logical...

No worries, I'll just convert it on a PC and then move it to my mac. thanks.

What really bothers me is how much time it will take me to convert all of my Logic exs instruments one by one.

Mac users can open the Kontakt 5.1.0 installer with Pacifist.

    You'll find the 'kconvert.bundle' here:
    Contents of Kontakt 5 System Extensions.pkg/Native Instruments/Kontakt 5/kconvert.bundle

And that's the location of the 'kconvert.bundle' on a Mac:
    macHD/Library/Application Support/Native Instruments/Kontakt 5/

Does anyone know if this is fixed in Kontakt 6 ? (I can’t see it in the changelog but I don’t understand some of the fixes described so could have missed it).
    Thanks....

Kontakt 6 doesn't load 3rd party formats at all, so the solution provided above is the only way.

Thanks a lot for the reply - I guess that’s one way to resolve bugs - just remove any useful functionality that contains bugs.... can’t see it catching on across the software industry in general but seems to be how NI work :-( (thinking of Maschine, Kore etc). Apologies - still feeling grumpy about this bug! Sadly if it was fixed, it would have been enough for me to upgrade my Komplete...

It's pretty easy to revert the KConvert version as outlined previously in the thread, really. So why not do it?

Actually, 3rd party software serves you better in most cases because they usually keep up with the changes, since they specialize in what they are doing. Think of KConvert as OEM, you get the "real thing" when getting the "real thing". (See below)

To speak to your specific case (and I'm the project lead for those KConvert's and for Translator, so this is authoritative), the EXS format has been through some unfortunate changes since Logic X came out, some of it very unlike the other versions that insured backward compatibility. Since there's no way of knowing what future changes formats will have - and most of the time they behave, but sometimes they don't - I'm not surprised that a new EXS file wouldn't be nicely handled. And Frank P. is correct, it's especially the autosampler in MainStage EXS files that are problematic.

As to why older KConverts would load the file but not newer KConverts, it's just a fluke. New KC's were optimized better and probably incidentally shut the door on new files that hadn't been invented yet. I don't mean to have this sound self-serving, but Translator currently does do this completely properly and better than an old KC. Plus it adds some special functions that name the ugly-samplename AS-EXS files better.

Thanks ED. Do you happen to recall where the KConvert64.dll was stored by NI? I haven't been able to find it.

    EDIT: Nevermind. Found them at C:\Program Files\Common Files\Native Instruments\Kontakt 5

    Thanks.

    Hello,
Don't know, if someone else has this issue. I followed the instructions and replaced the KConvert*.dll's with the Kontakt 5.1.0 versions.
Now I can open .exs-files but as Demo in Kontakt 5. After saving them as *.nki I can use those instruments in Kontakt 6. But in Kontakt 5 they will expire after about 30min and I can't reopen those converted Kontakt instruments. But I can still open them in Kontakt 6.
Is there anyone else with this issue?
Edit: My Kontakt 5 is only the Player version. I own Komplete 12. Is there a chance, that I can install the full version of Kontakt 5? Is the license for Kontakt 5 included in Kontakt 6?
    regards
    Alex

Sounds like Kontakt 5 is in Player mode, perhaps?

    Hello EvilDrsgon,
    Thank you for your answer

Yes, indeed it is! But I don‘t know if I can install the full version of Kontakt 5 since I have a Komplete 12 license. How can I use Kontakt 5 with my version of Komplete? But at the moment I can save exs-files as *.nki and load them into my full version of Kontakt 6 without any problems.

    regards
    Alex

Alexander, I have both Kontakt 5 and 6, but my Kontakt 5 was already installed when 6 was installed. I don't know if installing 5 after 6 would cause any problems with Kontakt 6. I think not, since they both can co-exist, but I'm sure EvilDragon would know more.

Komplete 12 does not contain a K5 license, you would need to get that separately. But maybe no need for that because as you said you can convert in K5 but open in K6.

any news on this, also regarding the new .exs format?

Re Chicken I once bought this cause I was a heavy EMu user and it was the biggest fail in years. It simply didnt work and therefor I hesitate to invest more. Is anyone using chicken successfully?
