I installed the Una Corda samples on an extern SSD and already increased the DFD to the max but i still have disk overload and dropping samples.
So can i load the whole instrument into RAM? And when, how? I´m using the latest Kontakt 5 Player.
    Thank´s!

You cannot, since the instrument is locked for editing (sampler mode of all groups would need to be changed to "sampler", and you cannot do that if you cannot go into instrument edit mode).

However, getting dropouts on an SSD is definitely very weird... Seems very similar to this recent issue: https://www.native-instruments.com/...disk-overload-and-instrument-dropouts.270202/

Looks like bottom line is: SSDs over USB are a bust for DFD.

Thank´s... weird that Una Corda is the only i have this propblem with. Even some larger libraries works good on this SSD (via USB 3 indeed).
So means that i need the full Kontakt version to can load instruments into RAM or is this instrument general locked for editing?

Even in full Kontakt this library is locked for editing.

EvilDragon, do you have any experience with USB 3 or USB 3.1 for streaming? (Sorry if we've had this conversation before; I forget the conclusion.) Any improvements?

I think we all are convinced that USB 2 never worked well for streaming. But lots of people are clamoring for definitive data on USB 3, 3.1, and Thunderbolt as alternatives.

O.k. thank's. Would be nice to have such an option. So i can't enjoy playing fast passages :(.
Maybe i try to put that on the intern ssd of my macbook pro which is way faster normally.
But i saw somewhere that it's not recommended to put samples for streaming on the OS disk space. At least this library sounds awesome so far :)

USB3 is just faster, that's all. It's still a packet-based transfer protocol, and I think this doesn't gel well with random read nature of disk streaming - there's some inherent latency until a packet is filled and sent out.

TB is different, since it's basically a direct connection to PCI-Express bus on the motherboard. That's much faster, serial connection (no packets). Hence, preferred.

This is correct for platter drives. SSDs are usually much better in this regard since their random seek time is MUCH faster than on platters.

Thank´s again for answering. I put it now on the mac book pro intern SSD and now i can play as fast as possible without any hickups. Seems my extern SSD (in this case a Samsung T1 250) is too slow (but works O.K. with all other libraries i have). A thunderbolt 2 SSD could work but all things related to thunderbolt are just way to expensive.
