Locate Tools not working - Prism, Spark R2, The Finger, etc

I had to swap out a secondary hard drive where NI instruments and Libraries were stored. It was easy to re-direct Kontakt to the new location of its libraries instruments, but of course NI has not made that easy with Reaktor Instruments.

When I tried to run update installers (either via Service Center or manually) for Reaktor Prism 1.4, Reaktor Spark R2 1.3, and The Finger R2 1.3, I got the error message "No library found under the registered installation path. Either move the library back to its original location or re-install the library before running this update."

I ran the Locate Tools for each, directed them to the correct location, and upon completion each presented a message that the locator had succeeded.

However, when I tried the update installers again, I still received the above error message. I restarted the computer, but that didn't help.

In Service Center's 'Overview' pane, the install paths for these items had not changed after running the Locater Tools; the old paths remained.

In other words, the Locate Tools didn't work.

I've submitted a support request, but thought I'd post here while awaiting a reply (NI says say it can take several days to get a response).

I'm almost at the point where I've spent more time troubleshooting than it would take to re-install, but if anyone has found a solution, please let me know. (I'm well aware that NI doesn't recommend moving these instruments, but given that they made the effort to create the Locate Tools, this is probably a pretty common issue. They just need to make the locate tools work properly.)

    Thanks in advance.

Have you tried starting Reaktor in standalone first? Maybe Reaktor needs to register the 'new' paths first…

Thanks - yes - already tried that. Didn't help. Also launched each of those instruments in standalone, and while they had no trouble finding Reaktor, that didn't resolve this issue.

all 'Player' instruments and effects have to be installed to the default location which on a Mac is the Shared folder. if they are not installed there, you will have problems.

I don't think this is correct: I've run update installers for these instruments successfully in the past, and they have always been on a secondary drive, never in the Shared folder.

If the Shared folder were truly required, then it's reasonable to expect Service Center would display the file path to that folder for these instruments. However, it instead shows the previously-valid file path to the old hard drive.

Also, if Player instruments HAD to be installed in the Shared folder, then NI would not have created the Locate Tools; instead they would have simply said 'the only option is to reinstall in the Shared folder.'

all i am going from is my experience. i had your issue after installing them elsewhere, and when i re-installed in the Shared folder, everything worked.

the Factory 'Library' folder can be relocated but if you down't use the 'Shared' folder for stuff that appears under the PLAYER Tab then there will be problems.

imho, the Locate Tool does not work for the Player stuff - there is a bug and the workaround is to let the Installer put them in the Shared folder.

If they're buggy, then NI should fix them, and - if they don't work at all on the Mac - remove them from the web page.

I'll keep that in mind pending a response from Tech Support.

What I noticed between these that don't install vs. those that do is where Service Center says the location is. The location for the ones that don't install all say Mountain_Lion:Users:Shared. I have no such root directory. However, a while back I DID change the name of the icon on my desktop. I switched it back to Mountain_Lion, and then ran the installer again. Worked for me! So, make sure you look at the name of the root, and simply rename it to what it says.

I realize this is old, but I just found I have this problem. I’m just going back to the old way to fix it before the locate tools; edit the preference file in the root library. Just put the new path in. Reinstalling probably works too.
