Locked instruments?

Hi, something I'm not understanding about locked instruments. In my full version of K5 (inside VEP), in an empty new instrument bank, I load the "V1.nki" file from the new Spitfire Mural strings library. It seems to load, but I can't open it, getting the message "This instrument is locked and cannot be edited"

Why is this? If I load the same file as an instrument (and not in a bank), I CAN open it??? Why is this???

    Thanks in advance

This is a limitation of the current version of Kontakt -- when loaded into a bank, you can't access the front panel of instruments.

Many users have mentioned this so I hope it's something that NI addresses in a future version of Kontakt.

    Reviving some Old threads..

I have seen on various post EVilDragon suggesting that we double click on an instrument bank to be able to open and edit it. Kinda like it would be on a simple "multi rack" without using the bank.

On my case, I get the "this instrument is locked, connot be edited" Yet, in the manual, it says that I should be able to on P.98.

where are we at in 2019 ... ??

Some instruments are indeed locked for editing. In that case, open the NKI on its own, do the tweaks you want, save as new NKI then load that into the instrument bank.

Thx for the reply - So as for now, would you guys assume it is the best way to handle multiple instruments on the same track and having only one playing at a single time ??

Prior to discovering the instrument bank (quite recently) I was loading 4 instances of Komplete Kontrol (with different vst's on each) per track into an instrument Rack (ableton). I would then map my launchpad to the device on/off on of each Kontrol instances thus allowing me to have visual feedback of which instrument is activated.

Multiply that by about 7 tracks ( 1 : drumz / 2:extra drums / 3 : Bass / 4 : piano / 5 : pads, etc...). it was giving me about 7 x 4 = 28 Komplete kontrol to load every time I open a project. CPU is doing fine (as the instruments are toggled off) but guess my loading time :p ...

In the quest to reduce it, I've decided to directly load into the ableton rack the plugins that I can use on their own. (Massive, Absynth). Others like the Giant or scarbee seems to need a player like Kontakt or Komplete, correct ??

In doing so, I'm now loading about 12 instances of komplete while the other 16 devices contain the just the Vst. Went from maby 1min20 loading time to 55 sec. Still to long.

Is there anything more I should be doing? keeping a way to have visual feedback of which instrument is active is important?

Does the bank instrument "freezes" or reduces the CPU load when the instruments are loaded in (big project scenario) ?

    Thanks again

No it doesn't. It's just playing only one of the loaded instruments at a time. So, RAM load is increased, but CPU is only utilized for playing that one instrument that is selected via program change.

55 sec is really not a bad loading time I'd say. Ask composers which have giant templates with several thousand tracks how long is their loading time :)
