it should be: logic 10 comes with loads of filler unoriginal samples that will fill your internal hard drive.

    yawn logic...

I love my logic program and downloaded the update last night. Any of the useless samples you can always get rid of.

i know, i was being crass. i have logic 10 as well installed though i stopped using because the midi was wack and it kept giving an error saying my hard drive was too slow when using the logic included instruments that really did not contain any need of hard drive activity as the samples were minimal. (guess it does not like loading from aliases from a thunderbolt 7200 drive.. shame on me for not using up all my internal drive space.. )..... i just created aliases to them on an external drive... which works perfectly for every other program except NI ones... ... i have to give logic credit for being easy to use on a laptop, which is why i picked it up.....

Gotcha I haven't run into these issues, sometimes it is helpful only doing this as a hobby and not being a power user, although I am happy with its midi and am told I can ever work sysex with it. I haven't tried that yet.

the new compressors gui's are nice... the rest of the new features have been in live and cubase for many versions.....

i only use logic now if i forget the %^&*in' 'waste-of-a-usb-port' dongle for cubase and i want a similar DAW environment..

a real plug-in manager.... are you paying attention to this NI...... maschine needs this...

definitely looks nice. has my interest piqued

looking at a traditional DAW though always makes me think of the power and potential within Maschine that is just not capitalised on. if only...

so Apple, have finally remembered that most users want to make 'electronic' music with it and not rock music.

I don't know that that is true I know a lot of people that use it for Rock and country they just don't participate in forums. But here certainly the bias of how to use logic makes sense. Logic was really lacking in this area.

Ok, it's been a while since i used logic. How do you set it up so that it overdubs into the existing region? I keep getting separate regions created every time i add a new drum layer to the new drum machine designer... :(

You have to go into the preferences and turn on cycle record if I'm not mistaken. You ahve several options, to record takes, overdub, and the current behavior. I just record and join at the end. Less hassle.

garage band comes via iOS 8 on the iPhone/ipad now... if you try to open it it asks to install libraries that will fill up quite a bit of the limited non-expandable storage..... part of me has to go conspiracy theory and suggest that apple only offers logic at the incredible low price as it makes it up when one has to order larger storage space or upgrade the device to install the samples.... lol.. anyway,.. i think garage band is used more often for rock and country.. and pro tools being the choice for the high end of that.. logic pre-apple, like cubase, used to be more for electronic music (music with midi and audio equally). apple started to merge garage band into it and made it so you did not have to read the large technical manual... still has the feel but glad they seem to be going back the roots of logic when it was in Emagic's hands. hope apple improves the midi engine.

Never new logic before 9. I like that it is covering more basses now and any midi improvement is a positive thing! I didn't know that about garage band on iOS is there no way to remove or not install the unneeded stuff? Your conspiracy theory could be right on. My favorite thing about Logic is how it wasn't like starting over when I deleted GB and started logic, and of course the price! Daws can be very expensive, to my mind, and logic has a nice balance of features to cost.

Funny other then maschine Logic is my only DAW and I know maschine isn't a daw but it fills a void in logic, does that make sense. I never really understood how people could have so many DAWS that they work with they all seem to be able to give a person very good if not professional results if they are learned well.

I must say I like the look of logic now better then what I see in your image ntula, Im sure it is because of the darker screens, they seem easier on my eyes over time.

they all specialize in certain functions:

    on the mac

    live for performance
    cubase for midi
    pro tools for audio
peak, now wave lab only, for mastering and wave editing.

i would have put logic in the same place as cubase but it does not handle midi as well as it used, but is handles loops and libraries of audio better, and is easier of all of them to use on a laptop, except live.. which excels at efficiency and stability via a very simple gui and semi hidden function not found in the main menus

you would never want to use cubase live, though some try to... .. .. pro tools handles audio the best and the midi support used to be pretty minimal...

logic used to be more like cubase, now it is more of a general solution. there is nothing wrong with logic, it is a great audio solution, it is just personal preference and what one finds most comfortable..

Thanks Ntula I can see how all you pros can utilize the differences and play on them to your advantage. I am glad there is an affordable general option for a hobbyist like me to use.

Although I can see some lure to Ableton, I haven't tried it for fear I would like it, and because the scene pattern approach still doesn't set well in my head. Linear still seems easier to me, especially linear that I can continue to layer on. I like to play what I have done and then create a new track and play along with it and record that as I go. Although my results still are quite amateurish I don't have issues with transitions between scenes, my very weak point. Sorry off topic. Thanks for the replies though form all of you. I learn for all of them!

you cannot go wrong with live.. you can even use it to dj from... and will run on pretty much any computer made in the last 10 years.. but it is a totally different form of DAW... it is structured for performance and being able to directly internally record that performance for distribution.

i picked up logic 10 because it was the best general audio solution for a mac laptop.

Oh man. Memories. I started using Logic with 5.5 Platinum. That pic takes me back. Funnily EVOC still looks exactly the same. Yeah, it's about time Apple revisited their plugins.
