I tried using the record button on my S61 MK2 to start a recording of a clip in Logic Pro Live Loops and it doesn't work. It looks like it disables recording? I can start a recording from my macbook, but the KK S61 MK2 is supposed to be a "hands off the computer" music creation system. Is there something simple that I'm missing. I'm going to play with Ableton Live - I bet that'll work fine..

I'm not sure it is enabled yet for Live loop recording in Logic, the original KK functionality in Logic was developed before the live looping capability existed, so works with ordinary transport but I guess may need the new functions adding. tbh I'm not even sure how KK is supposed to know which loop to record into without selecting it by mouse first. Live is another matter, as it has always had that capability so KK was designed with that in mind from the start.

Thanks for the background! I'm just jumping into all of this and I don't know the history of when new features were added to all of these products. I AM able to scroll around to different cells in the Live Loops Matrix with the directional knob on the KK.

That's interesting because I know nothing has been added to the Logic functionality since Live Loops came out so must just be replicating how it works in Live. To be honest I have barely touched live loops - not something I find much use for really.

If it is tapping into the same base functionality it is possible there may be options in Controller settings that determine what Rec acts on, I know in Bitwig for example I can select in options whether record or shift record operates transport or cell record. Also try using Shift record and see if that works ( I would hazard a guess that it might as it does in Live too).

I like the ability to create song sections (verse, chorus, intro, bridge) just once for each instrument in live loops and then play/recording various sequences back into regular song tracks - I think it makes me create faster with more interesting variations during the song. I'm hooked on the concept. I did some recording in Ableton Live last night and it's pretty slick with the KK keyboard - effortless, as they say,,,, these are all great tools for song creation...

To be more clear, the REC button on the Komplete Kontrol keyboard does not work with the Logic Pro "Record Into Cell" feature of their Live Loops view.

Live Looping capability can definitely be done on the Komplete Kontrol keyboards and doesn't take much time to setup, though you will need to be comfortable using the Komplete Kontrol MIDI Assignment Editor and the Logic Pro Controller Assignments editor for initial setup.

First, using the Komplete Kontrol MIDI Assignment Editor, I created a new template called "Logic Pro X" with the following custom labeled buttons. Set each to "Control Change" and mode to "Trigger":
    - PL/ST/REC Cell
    - Cut Cell
    - Copy Cell
    - Paste Cell

In Logic Pro, I went to the Controller Assignments editor and created a new zone called "Custom S61 MK2". In this zone, I used the "learn" mode to assign each of the above buttons to the following actions in Logic:
    - PL/ST/REC Cel = "Play Live Loops (Trigger Selected Cells...)". This enables the button to Play, Stop and Record into each cell
    - Cut Cell = "Cut"
    - Copy Cell = "Copy"
    - Paste Cell = "Paste"

On the Komplete Kontrol keyboard, you will need to be in "MIDI mode" to use these buttons, and will also need to select the template created above. To switch back to controlling the plug-in on the track selected, just select the "Plug-in" button. Easy to toggle between the modes as needed for controlling either Live Loop operation or the plug-in.

This works very well, no issues at all. That all said, I'm planning to pickup a Novation LaunchPad Mini MK3 to keep on my S61 (just fits) for easier navigation as the 4D encoder is just a bit clunky for this.

Ping me if any questions re: above, happy to help.
