Hello all. My Maschine will be arriving in a day or two and I want to be ready right when I get it to start creating music. I make Hip-Hop music, and need a really heavy bass to power the song. Was wondering if Maschine had sounds capable enough to do this, or whether somebody had a suggestion as to a good bass pack or sample? Thanks!

I'd call them mediocre at best. A majority of them are very synthy. Great for some DnB or Techno.

I've been struggling to find good bass sounds, but it's not easy. I suggest learning your way around a synth and trying to program your own. I'm no expert at it, myself, but practice makes perfect.

Spectrasonics Trilogy Bass VSTi is a great sounding piece. It takes a bit to find what you're looking for, but there's a few hundred pre-made patches and plenty of sound sculpting dials and faders to toy with. Really worth the money.

NI Urban Arsenal is a more cost efficient solution. Granted it doesn't have the vast library of bass sounds that you'll find in Trilogy, but it does have some great hip-hop sounds...

Like I said, I think bass is the hardest to track down, so if you happen to find some gems of your own, let me in on it. I believe everyone can use great sounds.

Yeah I think there should be a Bass thread were everyone can share different Bass sounds they own. Another problem I find is that I don't have bass's where I can hold the note. They are more bass stabs.

I disagree with the last two posts, I have found Maschine's bass sounds to be more than adequate. If you don't like them straight out of the box there are a ton of ways to add FX or edit them.

The "Soft Upright" and "Jazz Upright" are both great acoustic bass sounds. Adding a little reverb to them or tweaking the EQ a bit can change them up, but for jazzy beats they are good right out of the box.

For electric bass sounds the "Deep Picked" and "Warm Fingered" are really good, as is the "Bright Electric" although I think that's better with a little EQ to tone down it's brightness just a bit.

Under the Analog and Sub headings there are a lot of good basses, I really dig some of the Sub Bass sounds, and they will probably work really well with hip-hop.

I think the people saying that there aren't good bass sounds in Maschine are either being way too picky and holding themselves in a much higher regard than they should, or they use that as an excuse for why they can't make cool tracks.

i agree with jfuller but also Reason - Urban Arsenal is worth exploring as is NI's Essential Bass.

for my tastes there are not that many good traditional Synth basses in the Maschine Library, but i have Reaktor and Massive, so i am not too worried about that.

Since words like "a lot" and "some" do not describe exact quantities, we'll say that you named 5 patches. Granted, I agree that those 5 patches are good, but it's still just 5. That isn't exactly what I'd call a plethora. Hardly a large selection, which is what I assumed he was looking for.

Wow, look at what a picky lad you are.

So I named 5, and all 5 were good, and they were all of the "real" bass sounds that I normally use, not the synth sounds. I could go through and name some of the synth sounds that are good if you would like. Would you like me to list anything else for you? Maybe names of companies that make basses? Good bass amps? Want me to teach you to play bass too?

MGStudios, there's tons of good stuff in Maschine, ignore these people who are upset that they can't make any good music.

I have just stumbled on this thread, yes we could have more Bass in Maschine but with a bit of tweaking of filters and EQ its verrrrrrrry easy to make 5 into 25, and if we need longer basslines, why not use the loop functions available to us all.......

subs - top notch so far as im concerned
synth basslines - these are the weakest area in maschine in my opinion - in quantity at least but this is where the experimentation comes in and there aint nothing more enjoyable than creating a killer sound from others....

layer some, change filters, have 3 bass sounds - 1 band pass, 1 hi, 1 low, then tweak..... use the bottom end from sub kicks ,,,anything goes really...

    good luck

    exactly widowmaker!

sometimes i love the maschine basses as they are other times you just need to fiddle with the settings a bit thats the joy of it its so easy to change what you are given into something you want.. experimentation is the key.. and if you cant find what you are looking for or can't be bothered to tweak it to how you like then you can find another program and sample into maschine or use the midi out of maschine to sequence it! so so easy

music making is all about experimenting not about just sitting around using presets (though if thats how you like to make music then go ahead if thats what you enjoy)

I have to agree with Widowmaker as well. I use Trilogy a lot but what comes with Maschine is not all that bad with some minor/creative tweaks.

PS: Am not sure if you noticed but I think you've accidentally dropped the secret formula to life in your answer purdz;)

bass stabs work great since machine with automatically allow you to play them across the keyboard, use the loop settings to help the notes sustain as as as changing from oneshot to adsr....very quick way to make some bass, especially sub bass.

plus there are some decent bass sounds in here, like others have said, tweaking is key to get what you want, but don't sleep on using single notes, or the plain waveforms, sub bass = a sine wave...l

set the loop points and play :)

I don't know why the hostility, my friend. I've said twice now that i agree with you on every level. But he asked for other bass samples...so I gave some suggestions. Just because you love the factory set, doesn't mean I must. I respect your opinion (and, in fact, agree with you about the quality of the stock sounds) but I feel you should also respect mine.

Would I like you to name companies that make basses and/or bass sounds? No, but he might, that's exactly the question he wants answered, actually.

Good bass amps? No thanks, I don't play.

Teach me to play bass? Sure, I'd love to learn.
    ---
    I assure my calmness, brother.

I don't understand why you can dislike the factory sounds, but when I say they're not that great I get argued with...

It's beyond me. I'm over it, though.

At first listen Maschine doesn't have a massive variation in bass sounds but pitch down some of the more obscure instruments, and some filters and you get some really original sounds. One thing I found with maschine, most of the intrusments sound great, but Maschine really encourages you to make your own sounds with what's there already. Maschine has taught me so much on making my own sounds out of nothing. The more I use it the more I surprise myself :)
