I would love to see a NI version of a Reason style sequencer for
using with NI products as well as there own modules that one could add on to a rack and buy to extend the program..Full on powerful sequencer (anolog style as well) midi Out, etc..
    NI would do serious revenge/damage!!
    GO NI!!NI RULES!!

Yeah it would be a great software, intuitive and powerful like other N.I.products (not like cubase)

    TRY THE METASEQUENCER24X!!!!

    I think I have an answer: the METASEQUENCER24X. it's the rebirth/
    redrum/matrix sequencer you've (i've) always wanted:)

it is an instrument i uploaded to the user library yesterday.
i've been working on it for about 2 months (mostly testing,
    playing and adding features).

I wanted something like the matrix or redrum or rebirth sequencing,
    but needed more:
be able to switch patterns at any step,
patterns of different loop lengths/tempos/time signatures
a loop start feature to do fills
moving notes off the exact step so you can get any type (or no)
    quantization

but it does something else, which is why i call it the
    MetaSequencer24X:
instead of 1 sequencer, it's 24 packed into one small sized
module, and you can switch views AND route the output of any sequencer
to the input of any other(s) so that it can recursively sequence
(the depth of recursion is also only limited by the amount of voices,
i thought 24 was enough, if you need more, just bring up another
instance-- or modify the thing yourself-- i may post
a 96 voice one, but i don't want to make it too big or slow).

each sequence is triggered by a midikey, you divide your
keyboard (or guitar synth-- which is what i mostly use for a trigger
since i'm a guitar player) into 3 zones+1 single trigger gate to
start/stop all active sequencers (i.e. start/stop the whole "song:).
ZONE1: this zone let's you select patterns and optionally use the
gate value of your keypress to set the volume of the pattern
    (midi only--you pick you're own synths, samplers,etc)
    and optionaly trigger the pattern
ZONE2: this zone triggers the pattern set by ZONE1, optionally
use gate value to set volume AND add the pitch value of the
key so that you can use it as an arppeggiator
ZONE3: this zone selects which voice or sequencer you route your
ZONE1 and ZONE2 information to. i.e. you set notes 90-95
to select sequencers 1-6 (see hints on the knobs and comments
in the user library-- the upper METASEQUENCER entry titled
    "emergency comments").
you can optionally trigger the pattern selected at that voice
    with this zone also.
not only is the input routed to that 1 sequencer, you can
use the "Latch" section so that other sequencers "listen"
or latch onto the input designated to a certain sequencer
OR use the "meta" section so that output from sequencer x
goes to sequencers a,b,c,d (thus turning the sequence at
voice x into a meta sequence:). you can also trigger sequencers
which trigger others, etc. any combo of latching and metalatching
    is possible.
SINGLETRIGGER GATE: the note selected by the "High" knob-- this keypress will trigger all voices.

Also, most of the little boxes with numbers are pictureless
knobs, you can still change the values by moving the mouse over them.
I included hints on all the knobs, and emergency comments in the
    user library section.

    Please use and enjoy!

    PEace,

    Elon

BTW, i was going to call it the
SupaMetaSequencer24x but thought that would be a bit much.
I consider this sequencer to be far "better" than let's say... a dv cam, or certain used cars... but enough rambling:)

forget about that metasequencer, try MIDAS

the polyphonic, meta-recursive, intra-active time companding super duper luper minisequencer has arrived... again!!!

this is the 2nd version of the metasequencer. it's more modular (learned that from the Caterpillar ensemble--which is amazing).
it's not a total sequencer solution, it's more like a midi pluggin:

each key you press triggers a midi sequence, and you can optionally control the tempo at each step of the sequence (i.e. if you have an intricate fill you can speed up the tempo and put more notes in for the steps which the fill is in).

it has up to 64 voices per supa dupa lupa (the interface for looping).
you can have multiple instances within the MIDAS instrument (it's an embedded instrument).

advanced copy module-- you can expand and compress your midi pattern and it will adjust the tempo/loop length and loop start automatically.
you can have 64 copies go on at the same time (depending on how many voices you assign to the PATTERN VIEW instrument)--and there are 64 banks which contain 128 patterns that can be up to 128 steps (all configurable if you change the table sizes-- and all the patterns are either empty or really bad test patterns i put in there-- you make your own patterns).

you can record your midi, or the midi generated by a supadupalupa:
if you set up 3 voices to play patterns to be triggered by one key (you can map the input to multiple voices via the INPUT CFG embedded instrument) and you want to record yourself triggering those patterns, you can have one supadupalupa set up identically to the one your currently using, but direct the midi out channel to be the same as the internal midi channel the PATTERN VIEW instrument is set to (make sure to click "internal midi routing" for both supadupalupa and pattern view). if you set up autorec then on receiving a midi start/continue message it will record after the specified precount.
I know that sounds like a lot, but i put hints on every control, and they tell you how to do all this stuff.

Hope someone out there finds it useful. and if they do...

    Happy MetaSequencing,

    Romulus

    Looks great but..

I tried downloading this monster but only could see a .ism..
Is there a full ensemble to run?How do i get this to use?I added to my ens panel but could not add a clock..How do i get it to start?
How can i control VST plugs etc?Looks awesome though!!
A simple text instruction could be helpful for morons like me...
    hehehehe

    hey,
ok, it is only an "ism". just put it into an empty ensemble first.
the comment in the user library which i guess i should have included as documentation explains how to get a sound out of it:

    1) load up the "gonzo classic" drum sampling instrument and midas into 1 ensemble.
    2) set gonzo classic to receive from internal midi channel 4 (check internal midi routing in the properties of the gonzo instrument)
    3) double click on the SupaDupaLupa in the ensemble window and the instrument window pops up (if i had everything visible in the ensemble you'd need 8 monitors to see the thing:)--this was something i learned from the caterpillar ensemble (which is a full blown sequencer in the user library)
    4) set the midi send channel (via the knob on it's panel)
    5) click "internal midi routing" in properties for SupaDupaLupa
    6) play note 64 on your keyboard and the pattern should start going.

you don't have to add clocks--read the hints on the Ext clock button
and surrounding controls-- also press "play" in reaktor toolbar if you have Ext. Clock pressed (and set the external tempo knob near that button to 6 for 16th notes--it's a frequency divider and the clock is a 1/96th clock.)

hope this helps, let me know.

    have a good weekend

Hi, arpwizard, I gotta tell you that signing in with yahoo is a real pain in the ass, sorry!
I'd love to pick up your program, but maybe you can just mail a .zip-file to atom_b@gmx.net and if you like include me in your mailinglist for feedback, or I'll have wait until your site is up.

    Regards

You want a new sequencer like reason from Native Instruments?
Maby a good idea to use Muzys for it.

Personally i think Muzys is the best and easiest Sequencer there is. I've messed around with cubase for several years (you know what i mean, i guess!) and all the messin' dissepears when you you Muzys!

    Muzys Rules!!!

    Cheeck out: www.muzys.com

Never heard of this sequencer but looks alot like all the rest..cubase/Logic etc..Can you ell me why you prefer this over the other giants?Any things it does different or better or...??
    Thanks

if you're talking about the midas metasequencer...

then it's not a giant, and it's not a meant to be a full fledged sequencer--it's stores patterns which play when you trigger the keys
and those patterns can themselves be rerouted back to trigger even more patterns (i.e. meta sequence)-- it's more of a pattern builder, an arppeggiator (pretty cool--64 voices can go on at the same time
with different pitches/tempos/patterns-- all triggered by a single keypress to pick the patterns which get mapped via input config so that i.e. note 59 triggers pattern 40 bank 6 for voice 1, pattern 80 bank 8 for voice 2, nothing for voice3, pattern 9 bank 54 for voice 64 etc.-- per instance of each supadupalupa)

i didn't want to reinvent the wheel, i use cubase and can't really see anything that could be that amazing to make me switch out of the vst environment (since i mostly use it to host reaktor/battery anyway).

if you're not talking about midas, then atleast i got to give it some more hype:)

hopefully everyone is happily metasequencing but i've gotten questions back-- if you have problems i will help you to get it to work.

    Peace,

    elon ... oh yeah Romulus

i picked the name because my linux server from college had that name
(the other was remus, but they didn't seem to find rome:)

I'll help you get it working

email me, there was another mac user who actually got it loaded after some help. i definitely need to do some serious docs but i've added hints on all the controls.

i think this is the problem:
you have to make sure the table files are in c:\temp\reaktor_tables\... (extract using the full path name i included in the zip file)

if you have a mac then extract them to HD:\....

i hope reaktor on a mac knows to load the referenced tables from HD:
    and not C:

let me know if you have any problems, and also, since you created the
caterpillar which gave me the idea to make midas a subenvironment instead of an environment (i.e. instruments with no controls in the ensemble, modular...thanks for the great ideas!!) i'll help you as much as necessary to get it going (i already created a different interface at the request of another user who had some good ideas). i'm interested in integrating this with the sequencer you made (especially the controller editor).

    peace and hopefully happy metasequencing,

    elon

    midas update+gate splitting sampler

i updated midas, added an easy pattern builder interface (it doesn't play the patterns-- that's the SupaDupaLupa's job)

put in a sampler which splits gates in many ways, and some drum sounds ( you might find this more usable since it's ready "out of the box"-- but i have it hooked up to midi internal channel 4 to receive MIDAS input)

if reaktor crashes when you load this ens up it's because it cannot find the table files: extract tables to path name included in zip file

the whole thing worked for me (i was making beats for a few hours before uploading). i hope it works for you.

this is all meant to go under some host sequencing program/ensemble,
as MIDAS is not a sequencing environment, it's a looping/performing/pattern building environment.
i use cubase and dump all the patterns into the track once they are built (or just have my friend trigger them with a keyboard while i play guitar).

i will help you to get it working-- i always wanted a matrix/rebirth/redrum style looper that wasn't tied into the samples it comes with, and wasn't locked into starting at the beginning of a loop, using 1 time signature, tempo, drum map, etc. Good luck.

    PEace,

    Romulus

    MIDAS4 is uploaded

fixed a lot of bugs, changed the clock so it is in perfect
sync with cubase (when used as vst). now it can loop forwards,
backwards, or any way you want, and can switch to another pattern
midstep and automatically adjust the new step according to the
new loop length and loop offset.

also passes all controller messages, and 2 new instruments:
a midi chord player (8 8 voice chords can be played): select
chord "bank" with keyboard zone1 (can be used to separate minor, major, dominant, diminished, etc chords) , chord # -- can be used
so that each chord here is an inversion of a type of chord (i.e.
    maj 7th,9th,13th, 7th with 5th in bass,etc) and a third keyzone
which is polyphonic-- it plays the chord in the pitch you press
    (can be shifted also).

and took the new midi pitch transform from midas and made a separate
midi instrument: what it does is transposes each voice by a
certain amount, transforms the pitch according to the data you
enter in a table (new pitch = table(X=input_pitch,Y=preset knob val)
and then transposes the pitch again after (different value availabe
for each voice as with transform-- i.e. voice1 pitches could be transformed into a half whole scale, whearas voice2 can be transformed into a melodic minor scale, etc)

    comes with user manual--

it's basically a polyphonic looping sequencer, like a reason matrix
that can switch patterns mid step, and have multiple mono sequences
going on with different loop lengths, tempos. also can shift notes
within the step to achieve any quantization you want (along with
    changing tempo at each step).

heirarchical meta sequences: you can route a sequence from one
voice back to the input so each note triggers another sequence
on voices you choose, which can then be routed back again
(so you can have heirarchical loops, or "looplets"-- fragments of
loops that you play in other loops)

can transmit live mod, pitchbend, volume and pan so you can use
for example with the pad synth that comes with reaktor. (play
arppeggio [patterns while adjusting cuttoff, etc)-- in addition
to each voice having the functionality to transmit controller messages: the pitch = controller #, gate (grid expands to 1/127
at full zoom) = control value.

for program change, pitchbend, channel aftertouch set controller enable to "2" for any voice you want to use to transmit these messages, then the pitch is 0 for program change, 1 for pitchbend,
2 for channel aftertouch. see doc for more details.

can shift keys live while transforming the pitch to which ever scale
with the keyshift and/or "relative minor" button.

harmonist functionality-- bypass the loop counter and have the
pitch/gate go to midi out after the input pitch transformation:
it enables you to "alias" other voices to the voice
you're currently playing into (selectable via keyboard zone3 or
knob--see doc) so one keypress can trigger a major seventh chord,
for example, or every pitch can be transformed into a lydian
diminished scale (so even if you bang on the keyboard, and swish notes
    it's all in lydian diminished).

loaded it with the famous SL-09 drum synth by Martin Brinkmann,
and the loops in bank 1(whichever the pattern bank knob is set
to when you download it) will play little patterns, to show
how it can be used as a midi sampler: one key will trigger a 16th
note double snare hit, another a 8th note triplet high hat pattern,
etc. the lower part is bass drums, the middle of the keyboard
is snare, and the upper is hihat (notes 36-72 in all for zone1).

and pattern C1 shows a regular monophonic loop (note that the
poly button should be pressed to play the intended way for the
demo-- i.e. press multiple keys from zone1 at the same time to see).

use the midi chord, pitch transform/pose, and controller macro within
those for your own instruments also (try them with the "pad" synth
that comes with reaktor to play chords, scales).

Enjoy, and email me with questions-- don't worry there are no
more tables that are saved to file, everything's in the ens.

    Elon
