I'd say one benefit of Apple compared to other big companies like Facebook, Google and Microsoft, is that in comparison to them, Apple makes their money from selling their products directly. They don't provide "free services with ads". This basically means that they don't really have any motivation to harvest as much user data as they possibly could, because what they really want is for you to pay $1399 for their new iPhone. They actually seem to be starting to use this as a big part in their marketing, with the new privacy features and blocking trackers in Safari almost by default.

While I don't really agree with some parts of their ridiculous pricing structure and other stuff, I'm much less worried about what Apple is collecting about what I'm doing as compared to Microsoft, which basically inserts ads and almost malware-like features in Windows 10, and I say this as a daily user of both Windows and Mac OS (and Linux - yes it's insane to use all OSes at the same time, but it works for me).

To be honest I am a little worried about Apple locking down even more now that a big part of macs is manufactured by them. But at the same time, I'd much rather have a product-based company lock down things with the intent of charging me more, than have the same happen by a company that sells ads and my user data to 3rd parties (looking at you Facebook and Oculus).

Yeah, as maddening as it seems, that does appear to be what’s happening.

Native Access does launch, but then it immediately checks for updates and then presents a message that it isn’t supported under Apple Silicon.

    Rather frustrating.

I promise that Native Instruments will be the very last to support M1. They are an old extremely tight-in-the pants company who have probably lost much of their talent in the software division.

I’d be willing to bet by this time next year they still won’t even work under M1, even using Rosetta 2. They are painfully slow and a prime reason why one should not put their eggs in one basket.

I hope you are wrong about it, we will see. I'm willing to wait few years for NI to sort it out.

    However...

I had license for Ableton Live Lite from Splice, so I've started to learn it recently, just in case ;)

Perhaps upgrade to "big" Ableton Live and Push is an option for me. But I like Maschine and KK S61 mk2 so much, I really would prefer for NI to man up and support Apple Silicon ASAP.

I will love it too but my gut is more with MisterEcted
I'm not sure about how fast will be NI adaptation and we have just see the top of the iceberg from Apple. Don't forget these are the first mac Silicon of 2 years transition. If NI doesn't show something promising in the next 6 month (been conservative in my numbers) my gut says we are going to see new proposals emerging making NI users nervous... Being Traktor Dj 2 the most advanced product in this direction feels like a minor project for NI. M+ proposal is ok but I'm still trying to figure if it born dead due to delays in development/release dates.

Can you imagine a MPCX where the screen is an iPad Pro running full Logic Pro X?

I can see it happening in less than 2 years...

This is a great deep dive of the M1 and what it can do:

As for NI getting on board with Apple Silicon: I wouldn't bet on this taking a really long time. Sure, NI doesn't introduce new features as often as we'd like, but by all accounts, getting their apps Rosetta compatible is like a day's work at best. I'm sure that's happening behind the scenes now with updates to roll out in a month or two when they make their entire lineup Big Sur compatible.

Maybe I'm being overly optimistic. I think it may take a year or two for us to see native M1 support. But Rosetta should be a piece of cake.

The problem isn’t that... It’s the full native support and how long it will take. There are other proposals out there running natively in iPad like Gadget or Zenbeats that will be in better start position to add new technologies meanwhile NI still has to recode the basics (GUI for retina display the first). Look at Djay Pro app implementing Neural AI spleeter separation and look into Traktor Dj 2... it was even rumoured being sold and it’s the most advanced development from NI related to the new Apple silicon.
I still think NI wasn’t enough aware or didn’t took really seriously the Apple ecosystem from its heredated technologies from the previous management board and I’m feeling it struggling in the worst finantial scenario (covid)... I hope NI gets over it and bring new modern proposals but I’m a bit worried about it.

It will be a shame that NI becomes Avid 2.0 downfail...
Serato was near when they make the Bridge and the Sdj transition but now it seem they are slow but solid growing (and first M1 test on rosetta seem promising) but NI and native access drama brimgs me back the times of m-audio enigma software or Torq 2 dramas on and on... there are too much similarities and the time Serato released Sdj wasn’t the same period Apple released a disruptive technology so big like Apple silicon.

We will see so just a matter of wait and learn.

Not as yet - I got rid of my M1 with 8GB RAM and am still waiting on the 16GB version to arrive. Looks promising though!

Is that speculation, or did I miss an announcement?

You didn't miss an announcement but I've shared more in another thread ;)
We're going to share this information soon but here is an update from the NA team about M1 support:
"We're currently working on releasing a beta version of Native Access that will allow installation of Native Instruments products on M1 Macs. In the first phase we will offer limited support only, allowing to install and activate products via Native Access. We hope to be able to provide more information on when this first phase will be rolled out in the upcoming days."

As soon as the official message is out, I'll do a sticky in General and Native Access sub-forums
