    Hi all,

I know this isnt directly traktor related, but i have just got traktor pro, and i'm going to use it in the clubs with 2 allen and heath xone 1D midi controllers and the audio8 dj interface.

All i want are peoples opinions on weather a macbook or macbook pro would be better?

I won't be running much else apart from traktor pro on it.

Any help/suggestions or thoughts would really be appreciated.

    many thanks

    Tom

    They're essentially the same.

I have a MBP...but mine isn't one of the new unibody ones.

A MB will suffice for your needs with no issues.

The new Macbooks are way powerful enough to run Traktor. Even the lowest spec. Id say that isnt really a concern unless you are obsessed with speed and power . I know a lot of peeps will disagree with that statement.

I personally couldnt use the Macbook as i rely on a FireWire soundcard for my controller setup. The Macbook doesnt have FireWire .

Next consideration is size. 13" is pretty small. I run T3.4 on my old iBook which is 12" id say running Pro on a 13" screen would be a squeeze but not impossible.

Main thing is how big is your wallet and does it contain 'benjamins' or just unused condoms and dirty pictures. Cus the price difference is huge.:(

The old macbooks (non unibody) can run traktor without issue as well.

The pros cost about twice as much. The are awesome, make no mistake (typing this on one, and I don't want to upset it), but the entry-level macbook is plenty for traktor pro, as long as you keep tunes on the internal drive.

Specially when the cheapest macbook has been updated with unibody specs (1066 mhz FSB - 9400 M), for under a grand. Great deal, u'll have a firewire and DDR2 memory much more cheaper to upgrade than the DDR3 u find in unibodys...

    Garysan,

None of the current non-pro models have firewire, I believe. Hence my comment about internal disk.. :)

Yeah i think Garysan meant the cheapest Macbook that is still available on the Apple website that is still the White Macbook . That has FireWire 400.
    Certainly no unibody has FireWire

I would go for a earlier generation MBP.. Great deals now,
and 15" is a minimum you need to get readable results in a club.

There are some great deals on the older 15" models (clearance).

However now that I have a brand new unibody macbook, the old ones feel like crap in comparison! :D

yes i think size of the screen is going to be very important in a club environment, i would much prefer the 15" macbook pro, i believe 4mb of ram is the max you can get in them (although i think you can get 8 in the new macbook pros) but 4 would be easily enough. hard drive space will be important and 250gig is around abouts what i want i think, i deffinatly don't want to be turning up to gigs and messing around with an external drive aswell.

Well unfortunately Pro isnt PPC compatible so i cant put it on my 12" iBook.

@tom, yeah only the new 17" will take 8Gb of RAM currently.

Actually I had 15'' Acer laptop before and was a problem with space in some clubs. Then I decided to buy a smaller lappy. 12'' has the same resolution as 15'' - 1280x800
