since you are asking advices probably is better for you to buy a Mac.
I have a cheap vaio with xp pro and traktor works good without problems...but...i made optimizations and i use it like a dedicated machine, only for music purpose.

At present i am running Windows 7 64bit on a Dualcore 2 Pc it works very well for home and studio work as I work and run a Radio station

I want to Dj more in Europe so i think a laptop maybe the way for me to go

Easy to take my mixer in its flight case and rest in my small laptop bag as hand luggage so it does not get lost or stolen as things do

Just want to know which would give me less problem and the best results

Looks like a Mac is the best option

and i hear they dont crash often.... which help when i am working in clubs...

Macs dont crash but software still does, I have had a few problems with using ableton live erm live. Traktor is a self contained program so should be fine on either platform, i have only been using Traktor Pro a week so im yet to use it live.

I would say im far more confident using a MBP than i am any other, so if money isnt an issue there is only one choice really.

PS. We are predominantly Mac based in Europe, infact i dont know anyone using a windows machine for live work, so i dont think you will find any problems there.

IMO your decision is not whether the Mac or Windows version of Traktor is better but rather which other app you would run on your laptop and if you have alternatives in OSX. Just because there is an alternative does not mean its good. For example if you depend on office application in Windows then you are not going to like crossover results in MAC. Office for Mac sucks the donkeys. With other cases you may find better or worse applications. Consider that if you do go Mac you can always run Windows if like me, your preference is for Windows despite liking the apple offering. The same is not so true in the other direction. OSX on PC hardware is a kludgey complicated mess that can be made to work, sort of pretty well, with very specific hardware.

You might take the position that Windows Traktor = Mac Traktor and then your choice comes down to whatever else you need to run on the computer.

    Hello

It is good to hear peoples views, as the Laptop is only really for music and Djing

i have various other Pc´s and laptops for other daily jobs...

I want to buy something for music only and some Productions work.. Adode audition, itunes for my itouch... traktor

And you always seen Macs in Studio´s etc and live productions and perfomances and i have pondered on buying 1 for years..

So i think a mac will give me the flexability i need and also run windows if needed..
best of both worlds if needed....

I just want it to work without hours of messing and tweaking and turning stuff off to make it work... i hear people spending hour and hour to get Traktor to run on Pc laptop, then still have problems even after turning everything off

Just neeed to get my head around it and not buy something pointless

    Kindest Regards

You should wait for the new Macbook Pros that are soon to be released (this week).

    I would get a Mac.

Even the IT guys who use windows at work are starting to buy them for there own use. They just same to do what you ask them to without giving grief

Just remember - if you'd get a Mac you could always run windows in bootcamp or virtual mashine if you'd need it. So it's just all about price and design. If you justify both then no question, get a mac.

PC Laptops give you more power for production and music apps right now at a cheaper price compared to the MacBooks, although I think the price premium for the design and flexibility of Windows and OSX is a good reason to choose a Mac. I think I will be selling up my Dell i7 Laptop for a Core i5 MacBook Pro when they are released as the dell is a bit on the heavy side to carry around when I'm out.

As a former MacBook owner I think PC laptops are a good route if you want to save money and there are still many slim and nice looking laptops around, as for an OS debate Windows 7 is rock solid and very fast.

    Hello guys......

I saw recently this laptop, at 350euros with warranty until August.

Anyone has a laptop with same specs (intel c2d 2.0ghz cpu) to tell me how much latency I can get? Do you think it can run @ 2.5ms?

I'm talking of course for running Windows XP (only for this purpose) & Traktor Scratch Pro with Audio8.

I cant say whether that HP will run Traktor well but i should say that trying to achive latency @ 2.5ms is 'probably' unrealistic.

Dont get too hung up about latency, anything under 10ms is fine.

Yo think so? A friend with a little more powerful Acer laptop gets 1.5ms.

BTW, I don't believe that anything <10ms is fine because I tested playing with 1.5, 5.0 and 8.0ms.... the difference of 1.5 to 5.0 was not very noticeable but 1.5 to 8.0 was CHAOTIC...

So I must watch for an other laptop?

    Thanks!

Ok there are people running Traktor an very under powered machines. I didnt say it wasnt possible i said it was 'probably unrealistic' to expect 2.5ms on a windows machine especially with TSP that was just above the required specs after reading about the trouble that people have with pops and clicks

I can run TSP fine at 2.5ms on Windows 7 and could on my old 2GHz MacBook, 5.5ms is fine for mixing but I can't use that latency for scratching or beat juggling. 3.5ms or lower is the sweet spot for turntablists.

I actually just sold my Black Macbook 2.4 GHZ and used the money I got for it to get a Dell XPS 16 with i5 processor running Windows 7. Works Great...No glitches with traktor and ableton running on the same machine. I actually only got to about 20% cpu usage.

My 2 cents are...try Windows 7 before you get a Mac. You can even install it on an old machine to test it. Windows 7 is a great OS in my opinion.

Is there some kind of spec sheet that is telling you that with such processing power and such amount of RAM, you would get such latency times?

At the moment I'm still investigating, I've just install a TSP trial version and getting connected to my own soundcard (not the Audio 8), I'm getting 10ms latency time... (on a 4Gb 2.4Ghz Dual core laptop)

So I guess that I need to get more processing power... to use TSP for turntablism... am I right?

2.4 Ghz Dual core should be fine...What kind of sound card is it? If it's the on board thats prob your answer. With an audio 8 I think you should be getting at least 5ms (prob lower) with those specs.

Latency depends on two things, your laptop and audio interface. If your going to be using TSP for turntablism with control vinyls you will need either an Audio 4 or Audio 8, either of these should go down to 2.5ms on your laptop which is fine for scratchig and beatjuggling.
