Any plans for more mainstream music in the Stems format?
And will it only be 2014/2015 music and forward or will we see some kind of artists/label/genre best of/greatest hits in Stems format?

I guess this will not happen but who knows? Perhaps tracks might be additionally released as *.stem.mp4 after their "high value"/chartset period.....

This would be great! Maybe some labels might realize they could make second/third profit out of "dance classics" and any DJ could have remarkable effects by playing single layers of best known tracks.

Would be great for making live mashups using known melodies and baselines.

Or at least release the Stem Creator so we can have a go at creating our own :-(

Yes but how separate/extract the single layers of exisiting tracks? It´s like isolating sugar, flour, yeast and fruit of a baked pie ......

Of course there are few older versions on 12" with additional vocal, baseline and drums but one had to combine them first via DAW to be able to play them single after.....

    ...makes no sense to me

You can get the vocals of a song by phasing an instrumental against it and vice versa if the producer pulled both out of the same project. You can dig out drums and phase them against an instrumental to get the leads, basses, ... makes a lot sense.

As former sound engineer I can tell you: No you can´t. Not as precise as a single track - and only near by having at least *.wav format. With *.mp3 almost impossible on standard songs according to overlapping frequencies. There is some software available which promises to do so, but I haven´t testet it yet.

Actually with a little practice and a lot of patience DIY acapella's can be produced which are up to a good enough standard for most people.
But you are right about it needing to be wav sources. I could only get good results from the original CDs and not MP3.

I was thinking more of using studio multitracks which are already out there and combining them into 'Stems'.

There are quite a few multitracks, moog. files about and even some well re-played stems available on iTunes (Although never available to buy in my country!)

The studio stems of Mobin Masters remix of Robin S - Show Me Love was available to buy at one stage, that would be an awesome .Stem to have.

There are a lot of creative people out there which could boost the adoption rate of the Stem format given the tools.
