Ok, why not have an option in preferences where you can select a midi message that is sent by play (and maybe loop and arrow keys) in the hardwares transport so you can start and stop your DAW from maschine in plug in mode. Starting and stopping is the only reason for using the mouse when creating beats in the DAW at the moment.. Slightly annoying, especially as the play button is part of the "flow" in stand alone mode, and it´s nice to the same way of working in plug in. Switching template to play and stop is not very fast...

    Perhaps an MMC message option.

Also, like GURU, have the option of playing just the Maschine plugin and not the DAW at the same time.

I'd prefer if this was solved by adding an option to allow MASCHINE's sequencer to be independent of the host DAW so PLAY, LOOP, <, > and the TEMPO knob work as in standalone. My only reason for running MASCHINE in a DAW right now is so I can have MASCHINE and various hardware synths, ReWire slaves and VSTs synced to the same MIDI clock.

Maybe the best solution for this would be for the controller to look up and output whatever the PLAY button is set to in the selected controller template, when Maschine is running as a plug in. Same with the tempo knob too. Then it would work with your DAW both when the controller is in Maschine mode and control mode.

In addition to Maschine's hardware controlling the DAW's transport, it would be great if it could control the tempo as well....

That would be a really usefull feature for me. I use Maschine in Live, and I'd love to have them play in sync more easily.
