When browsing through the Kontakt library I often find myself playing a few notes, changing a few controls, and then wanting to load another instrument.

The dreaded "Save changes to instrument?" dialogue pops up.

Now whilst I do understand the desire to handhold the user and not let him use important work - PLEASE for the love of sanity make this dialogue OPTIONAL.

Not only is this dialogue utterly annoying whilst browsing and testing sounds, its in my opinion actually contraproductive and potentially dangerous, since the FOCUS in this dialogue is set to the first button in the dialogue window, which happens to be the "YES" button. So accidentially pressing "return" or the space bar to quickly get out of this dialogue is more likely to save changes you did not want to save.

Maybe it would suffice to make the message optional as long as the user was not actually in EDIT INSTRUMENT mode. That would already mean that just for browsing purposes one could switch off this utterly annoying dialogue.

PLEASE, I am going mental over this dialogue.

Thank you for letting me rant ;-)

    I have the same problem.

Is there a way to avoid Kontakt asking save changes made to preset? I would only like to save changes manually If I want to do so. I prefer to always keep the presets with original settings.

There's no way to do that currently.

+1 dreaded indeed. Change default to “No” or add a “Don’t ask again” checkbox or something like that. I’ve never clicked “Yes” to this but I’m wondering... is there an option to revert the patch back to default if I accidentally click yes? Or would I have to reinstall the library?

You'd have to reinstall the library, or revert from a backup. This is exactly why that question is there (and I suppose it will never be optional, as this is not how any other program that stores projects - your DAW, your word processor, your image editor, etc. work).

Ah ok, thanks! Changing the default would be great if that is the case. Apple even mentions this in their interface guidelines: "Include a Cancel button when there’s a destructive button. A Cancel button provides a clear, safe way to opt out of a destructive action. Consider making the Cancel button the default button, because doing so requires the user to intentionally click a button to continue with the destructive action.” Just sayin.
