yeah, I know this is probably the most ridiculously simple question but I have been looking throughout the program and I am unable to find it. I have seen it on other programs of lesser quality so I am fairly confident the option is there somewhere...

In case you don't quite understand what I mean... I am talking about a function that gives the stuttering sound reminiscent of a pair of CD decks as opposed to the sound from a vinyl player when I press play/pause. As it is I can only make the sound of a vinyl player and I would like to be able to do both. how would I do that??

I'm not sure what stuttering sound you're used to, but you could try looping at 1/4 beat. In the loop section of your deck, right-click on a loop length and choose "1/4 beat" from the popup list. Then, while playing, use the "Loop" button like a pause button.

    Hope that works.

    Even though it sounds nasty.

yeah I see what you mean, I think the problem is that I am not being clear enough. I am talking about the sound that you hear on a cd player (DJ Decks) when you are cueing a song. you know... when you seek for the very start of the beat there is a fast stuttering sound. The player is basically just repeating a (very) short sample of where in the song one is at the present time. are

I think you mean the way tabletop CD players take a single frame of data and loop it. Makes it much easier to locate the very start of a kick when setting cue points. If only Traktor could do this!!!! Would be so much easier to set accurate beat markers when other music is playing.

As it is, I can only set beat markers when I'm not mixing.

Also I don't hear a difference betwen the "digital" and "vinyl" pitching/scratching noise. Initially I had thought this might be the setting to get the sound you want but it isn't - at least not on my system.

Thats exactly what I mean... It would surprise me alot if Traktor did not have this function (allthough I guess it doens't since we can't find it) .... but yes thats it... the way cd players loop a single frame of music .... I really hope there is way of getting this as I am not familiar with beatmatching on vinyl.. although I guess I could/will learn it.....anway... if anyone out there knows how to do it please do tell.....

    regards
    Glen

Have you tried the "snap to" button when setting cues? While it is possible to set up accurate beat markers while mixing (in most cases), it's preferable to pre-prep your tracks when you add them to your collection and before you take them out for a spin anyway.

The "How To Prepare Your Tracks..." thread is probably the most essential topic in this forum, and these steps would be useful in future manuals.

so is the general consensus then, that it is impossible to get traktor to behave like a CD Player instead of a vinyl player (at least on this issue) ??

I know exactly what you're talking about since I have a Denon CD player, and I can confirm that it's not there in Traktor 2.6. However, I have to ask, why would you want that? I mean, that cueing feature is basically a crutch since you don't have a visual guide on a CD player. IMHO visual cueing completely eliminates the need for that type of function (unless you're trying to use this as some sort of effect, of course)...

Gmint->not to sure about visuals eliminating the need for it. I see what you mean in the sense that yes I can "see" the beat. I can't precisely sue the track at the very moment the beat "occurs" however just by looking at the visuals because traktor doesn't allow me to zoom that far in. thats one reason allthough not the main.

I have two XP10 controllers that I am using with Traktor which makes cueing a little bit more fun. I know Traktor makes beatmatching very easy and can at least to a certain extent do the job for you and I am not against that at all. I am however new to DJ'ing and would like to learn how to beatmix the old fashioned way before I let traktor do the job for me.

So that is it basically, I just want to fully utilize my controllers.....

Incidently it seems a little strange that NI have omitted this feature from Traktor as it seems to me that it wouldn't be that difficult to implement. Since all the files are digital already it is just a simple matter of getting traktor to repeat the "highlighted" frame of music in a loop.....why would NI not include that?? that doesn't make any sense...to me at least....

ps. does anyone know for sure if it is in Traktor V.3??

phil-> yeah I know.... I have just been looking for it in the release notes of Traktor V.3 and can't find anything on the issue, but I must assume you have the inside track since you speak with such authority on the issue. :)

when is the release date for V.3 by the way?

    Hi Glen K
Traktor does not beatmatch for you, it tempo matches for you. you still have to beatmatch and mix for yourself. one of the common misconseptions with Traktor is you just press a button and it mixes for you. I think everyone here will tell that's not the case you still have " a Job" to do.

    He Does! :)
    Party on!

The only problem I've got with using a MIDI button for this as described (e.g in note mode and using 'Invert' setting) is that it ignores my Synchro start setting in preferences. I have to press cue/pause first to get it to synchro. Cue/play doesnt work. Maybe this is a bug actually...
