Is anyone else having bother setting Maschine 2.0 up within Ableton? I can manage to have Maschine triggered by midi clips in Ableton no bother but can't get Maschine to transmit midi data out into Ableton. Essentially, I want to set things up in an near identical way to the whole "external instruments" sort of set up from 1.8 and before. Any thoughts?

I can't seem to get Maschine to transmit any midi data when in "Maschine" mode. Ableton doesn't recognise any midi input at all unless I switch into midi mode. Is this intentional for 2.0 or am I missing something?

Are you running it as a VST or Audio Unit? Because audio units don't transmit midi.

Set the channel MIDI output to 'host'.

Have done that Lethal but it just doesnt seem to work for me! A strange one. As per usual. prob something obvious but havent found much online to guide me yet.

Like I said above, I can work around it for the time being but it's a little frustrating! At least I have things working fine in one direction.

    Any luck with S1 kcearl?

I think I'm going to have to give up on this one for the time being. Will just use my workaround using the controller surface. A shame!

I had it working in Ableton last night. I'll check it when I get home tonight.

I'm only on Live 8 mate. Here's what I did:

    - start with a blank project
    - open up a Maschine 2 VST 2.4 instance on a MIDI track
    - open MIDI, load a kit with patterns
    - set the MIDI output of a sound to HOST as per my previous picture
    - use a 2nd MIDI channel in Ableton: set MIDI from to Maschine 2 / Maschine 2. Set monitor to in.

    And voila!

Thats fine for one instrument but you cant do it with the drum group, you have to do it with each indvidual drum which leads us back to 16 midi and 16 audio tracks for drums.

I hope they fix this quick, i dont use maschines instruments, only the drums.

try this template that i have made for Maschine 2 in Ableton.

i use this to send MIDI to a Drum Rack with Sound 1 sending MIDI C1 - i used the Sound Transpose knob set to -24. all Sounds are on MIDI Channel 1 and each Sound is a semitone apart from the previous one.

Dude, I really appreciate you trying to help with the workflow...youre a credit to the site

Ill give this a shot until they update it...for S1 im just recording the raw audio and using plugs inside the daw, its a little messy but beats not using it

It's a shame that if you load a new kit, it overwrites the midi output settings so all the transpose stuff is lost.
Funny because if you load a new sound the midi settings are retained.

I noticed that 'transpose' is controllable via midi so I thought about making an Ableton clip to set it up automatically.
However midi learned bindings reset when you load in a new kit or sound so it looks like this is a no no.

I guess you can save your kits with the midi set up that way (haven't actually tried it though) but for me its one of the more disappointing features of the update.

i just tried using saintjoe's method of recording into Ableton and having the MIDI trigger the kit in Maschine - and it does not work unless you do a lot of hoop jumping and even then, it sounds like there is MIDI feedback going on.

my template only really works if you want to trigger another plugin - and in fact is the only method that you can use in Pro Tools even if that other plugin is Maschine, but the tried and trusted method that used to work with Ableton and Studio 1 is broken - or rather not part of the new
    design.

for me, it would make sense to have a Group MIDI Out setting - a reverse of the Group MIDI Input. or perhaps even better would be an option
to have the Group MIDI Input settings work for the Output as well?

I've got a crazy idea involving Live's scale devices and Live's rubbishness meaning that sending MIDI between channels merges all MIDI to one channel. I'm going to check it out tonight.

Just want to chime back in and say thanks for trying guys. At least it seems I wasn't completely missing something!!!

I have my workaround for the time being, can make do with that but will keep an eye on whether this is sussed out or corrected/revised.

Ive noticed another "funny" with Maschine within Ableton. If I load an instrument within Maschine vst, I get access to all the macro linked encoders as expected. If I save the template and reload - aboslutely nothing else changed - none of the macros remain and I have to reload the patch within the instrument to get the encoders to work again. Maybe this is an issue elsewhere within Maschine in general, Im only noticing it within Live.
