Maschine 2.0 Keeps Creating User Directory

When I first installed Maschine 2.0 in Preferences/Library/User I added a folder "Maschine Data" for all my data related to Maschine 2.0, but then removed that folder and added the folder "Maschine 2.0 Data" (I had a reason) and now everytime I start the Maschine software it creates the old "Maschine Data" folder with the Group, Plug-Ins, Projects, Recordings, Samples and Sounds folders inside.

How can I stop this? Is it a bug or is it my fault for changing the folder path in Preferences?

    Thanks

Did you have remove the old path to your user lib in the prefs before adding the new path? Or did you have overwritten the path?

I may have overwritten it in the first place but I've since removed, rescanned and added the new folder again.

    ???

If you are on Windows 7 or 8 you need to check that Maschine has permission to write files to the directory you created otherwise it writes to wherever it can.

You can't remove the first user path it is fixed. By default, this is the standard user directory. You can move it to another location and point to that but if you delete it then Maschine will see it's missing on startup and create it again. You can add a second folder and/or copy the original to a new directory and point to the new location in preferences.

but this doesn't work! i have the exact same problem as the first post. And no matter what i do and how many times i tell the preferences to point to another folder it keeps defaulting back to a folder inside my documents folder. tried copying that folder to a new location and pointing to that. that didn't work. Tried deleting the folder it keeps defaulting to and then pointing to my own folder. But everytime i open up Machine it just creates that default folder again no matter that it doesn't point to it anymore in prefs :(

i have posted a bug report about it but have not heard back yet. My bet is NI have plenty of more serious bugs to deal with before they get to this one :)

Hmmm. Here (on Mac OS X Mavericks) is everything okay. I have done the following: Add first a second user lib, than do a scan. Then delete the first one (the default entry).

Like I said, leave the first folder alone. Don't try to delete it. Use the add button to add an additional folder but the original needs to be left alone. You are likely having issues now because you messed with it and may need to reinstall to have it set correctly. The folder I am talking about is labeled "Maschine 2" and has a default alias of "Standard User Directory". Maschine always want's to see this in the first slot at the top of the list in the User Library paths.

yeah i somehow deleted the original folder. But it's still kinda weird that once you accidentally delete that first folder there is no way to ever set the default folder to anything of my choosing. must be a bug

and i actually did re-install. i followed the manually un-install guide. But when i re-installed the preferences was still like they where before the un-install. so yeah. I hope to find a sollution to this. I'm sure it will be handled in some update :)

There is a way to delete the preference setting file so it will refresh but I am not on Mac so maybe someone else can help. In your case you may need to delete it and then reinstall for the original folder to appear. You should still be able to just add another folder as long as it is a different one than the one in the first slot.

Also, have you tried deleting the alias name?

The to reset preferences please delete:
    /user/preferences/com.native-instruments.Maschine2.plist
while Maschine closed. You may need to reboot.

i did delete the .plist file when i did the re-install.

But just now i tried just deleting the new .plist file and then rebooting and opening Maschine 2 again. Now i get this message:

    Screen Shot 2013-11-07 at 7.51.54 AM.png

and then it sends me to service center to activate Maschine 2. Only problem is...in service center Maschine 2 is already listed as activated so don't really know what to do then

    --- EDIT ---

alright so i got it to activate again. and it has created a new .plist file

only problem is....yes...it still defaults to the same damn folder in "documents" even though it's not listed in my preferences :(

In your recording audio general preference what do you have?
You may need to call tech support to straighten this out.

I haven't had a chance to try a fix for this but, I noticed last night that since I haven't actually set my own project templates, 2.0 is trying to load the default templates from the original folder. Maybe this problem is stemming from having some data that is being used by 2.0 and it is therefore creating these new folders, sounds crazy but yeah.

Will update once I get mack to my setup.

Just create a folder on your external called Maschine projects and another called Maschine groups. Always save projects and groups with samples and save to this location. All your other files just save to the default standard user directory. It's that simple.

well i'm gonna go ahead and believe that the problems i got is a bug that will be dealt with in a future update. But it just sucks if they decide to remove a feature that was always there with the possibility to decide where i want my samples and recordings to go

and i don't want the "save projects with samples" or the "prefer project folder" options. They just don't work for my workflow

just give me the options that always worked in the older versions. And i know that i probably messed it up for myself by accidentally deleting the user folder in prefs in the first place. But it suck that i now can't do anything to point to a folder of my own choosing

but i get it. 2.0 is brand new and there are gonna be a boatload of stuff that's gonna be buggy and not work out the gate. I just hope that this will be fixed soon :)

By default, Maschine saves new recorded samples in the standard user directory "Recordings" sub folder. As discussed, you can easily copy the whole Maschine 2 folder that has the alias "Standard User Directory" to any location you choose and you can point Maschine to the new location and everything will work fine. So there is no bug or anything with this at all. I just recorded a sample and it placed it in the above folder as it should.

There is an option in preferences that I mentioned above under General called "Recording Audio" with the option "Prefer Project folder". This option should be unchecked unless you want the samples to be saved with your project. It may be that you have this checked but don't have a folder defined for your project and thus it saves to some other location.

The issue with you tampering with the folder can't be considered a bug either as that is your own doing. There is a way to reset this, however I can't help with that since I am on PC so I don't know what files to delete. This is why you need to have support help you with that.
