MASCHINE 2.0 will NOT let me SWITCH SOUNDS TO DIFFERENT PADS

i am brand new at Maschine 2.0 (producer for many years, but mostly hardware) and have very little experience with it, so i am following tutorials religiously to figure out the basics.

i am at section 3.2.5 of the MASCHINE 2.0 MK2 Getting Stated manual, and no matter what i do, i cannot switch my sounds to different pads. i follow the very simple directions that they provide, in this case with the EK-TL A kit:

    1. Click and hold the Sound slot 5 containing the “Kick Ektl A 2.”

    2. While holding the mouse button, drag your mouse up. As the mouse cursor moves up, an insertion line appears at the places where you can drop your Sound.

    3. When the insertion line appears under the other kick, release the mouse button.

and NOTHING happens. could not be easier right? i have tried clicking on every single area of the sound slot from the number to the name to everywhere between and to the side, and an insertion line never appears and i can't drag the sound anywhere. it just never selects no matter how many times i do it.

i have tried different kits, i have tried re-opening Maschine, i have tried restarting my computer, i have tried it in multiple projects, i have tried switching between MASTER, GROUP, and SOUND - nothing that i try will allow to switch sounds to different pads. the sound never "selects" and never gives me the option to move it and an insertion line never appears.

this seems very basic and intuitive and i probably would not have needed a manual to figure it out, it's no different than changing the song order in a playlist on iTunes. but no matter how many times i try, NOTHING happens.

please offer some insight as to what i could be doing wrong.

Works fine here. Are you sure you are on the sound slot and not the group or scene slot? Also, if you have the pad view toggled and you have the speaker audition icon on, it will not let you drag. If you have the 16 pad view on then turn off the audition feature by clicking the speaker icon. You can also try copy paste or use the duplicate function on the hardware.

    thank you, b-righteous!!!

the answer was turning off the speaker icon (where the sounds for the kit are listed), though i have no idea what the purpose of that function is or why i would have turned it on (or off) for any reason at this point. perhaps i will encounter it in my future studies.

(i clicked another speaker icon earlier when i was searching through samples ... the one in the bottom left corner for "prehear"-ing.)

i appreciate you clearing this up for me!

Thank you so much. This has been annoying to me. I've had to duplicate a pad just to move it. Ha. I've been using Maschine for a while now and ever since 2.0 I haven't been able to do it.

Deselect the speaker icon and it will allow you to move sounds around.

    That smug little speaker icon...
I had no idea why I could do it last week but couldn't switch around the sounds order this week. Thanks, B!

Super noob here as well as got to this part and this helped, however the same sound would trigger regardless of where is located. For example, changed pad 1 kick for pad5 kick(switched place) but it would still trigger pad the old pad on the new place. Thanks for the help!

When browsing for samples, make sure to press load to load the sample since the prehear sample preview will not stay when you exit the browser.
Or, turn of prehear by holding shift in the browser and it will be on one of the buttons above the screen.

YES! Thank you for this answer. That speaker Icon is what got me too, I would always watch videos of people just clicking and dragging their sounds to different pads with ease and I could never do this. So happy I looked up this forum!

I can't recreate what you're mentioning regarding the speaker icon and not moving sound slots so they must have modified this in an update quite a while ago?

Click this speaker icon on and try to move sound 5 to sound 1 with mouse.
