I just rebuilt my DAW PC and installed Maschine 2.3 on it. Maschine starts, scans for plugins and presets, and then the GUI opens and hangs. I get the Windows 7 thing that it is "not responding". The plugin scanner is not running in the task manager (it appears to have finished scanning). I have tried everything that I could find searching here and around the net - uninstalling and reinstalling the software and library, clearing the application data (forces a new long database scan), all drivers are up-to-date as this is a fresh build, tried toggling USB3 on/off in my bios, etc.

The Komplete 10 software is running just fine as are Cubase 8, Ableton Live 9 Suite, various stand-alone synths from Arturia V Collection 4, Halion 5 and Groove Agent stand alone, etc. My Maschine controller (v1) lights up and starts normally and if I fire up the controller editor I can edit it. So there is something hanging Maschine 2.3 someplace. My Kronos connects just fine with the driver from Korg and the editor works. My MOTU MIDI interface is functioning just fine. All is good except for Maschine 2.3

I am running Windows 7 SP1 with all the recommended updates from MS - again a fresh install on a nice fat and brand new upgraded SDD. The Mobo is an ASUS P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3 (yeah it is a few years old but is just fine - not a high end gamer). I have plenty of RAM for my purposes (16GB DDR3). I am using a RME Fireface 800 with the latest driver (ASIO) from RME.

I filled out a support ticket but have not heard back for a few days and was wondering if anyone has any suggestions.

    Thanks!

No solution at this time - no response from NI support. I have uninstalled and cleaned every item having to do with Maschine from my registry, downloaded and reinstalled Maschine 2.3 (this time I used the option to copy to another machine so I could save the iso's) and the darned thing still hangs once the GUI starts up (and after it asks for Audio driver info, etc).

Well... looks like another reason to focus on Geist and Groove Agent.

Do you have Presonus Notion software installed? If so then uninstall it.
Try uninstalling the Kronos driver and unplugging it.

Thank you for the suggestion. I do not have any Presonus software installed. I tried uninstalling the Kronos driver and keeping the Kronos switched off with no dice. It was off during previous attempts. I also removed all my USB devices (Steinberg Key, Motu Express 128 - not much). Windows 7 produces a bunch of "hang signature" codes but a Google search has not yielded any info.

More info: I updated the bios on my Mobo, no dice.

I also tried running Komplete Kontrol for the first time and it also hangs after the preset scan is completed. The FAQs state that it is possible to use it without one of the new NI keyboards. I wonder what is going on? Perhaps the fact this one hangs as well as Maschine 2.3 might provide some of the experts with an idea?

    Hello,

try to unplug or deactivate sound card and use on board just for research. Or try to use another sound card option at start up,
does it ask on every start up for sound card?

I will try that tomorrow. I also have a Windows 8 gaming laptop to try - one of those barebones things customs built on an MSI chassis - with a different portable interface. It is a pretty decent laptop for just about anything other than the turbo mode for the fan sounds like a jet plane. It keeps the thing nice and cool when the GPU is cranking, though.

I tried again with all USB devices including my Steinber dongle unplugged with no luck.

I would be surprised if the issue is related to the Fireface 800 and RME drivers as the device is ubiquitous and stable.

Okay, I tried again with the RME disconnected and Maschine 2.3 still hangs. At this point it is completely useless to me... and not a whisper from NI support.

Is your internal soundcard disabled in either bios or device manager? If you are using the RME for ASIO then it should be.

Better to call support then email. Phones always take a much higher priority. emails are answered when they can get to it. Usually with a generic response.

I think so; will check again. Maschine got to the point where it asked for the audio driver, presumably because it could not find the RME card.

Look in the support section. There is a knowledgebase article on how to reset the database. There is also a NI youtube support channel with instructions on how to reset database.

Heya, b-righteous and thank you so much for the suggestions. I already did the database reset. I also just tried another reset with no luck.

The scan for plugins and presets finishes without any problem. The main Maschine 2.3 GUI hangs upon launch when the scans are finished.

I heard from NI support today and they said to make sure all of my plugins are up-to-date and to uninstall the plugin that is hanging Maschine and try again. As far as I can tell, it is not a plugin that is causing the program to hang. At this point I am just giving up for a while and going to play with some other software and have some fun... I don't feel like dealing with the headache. I have been using Kontakt, Reaktor, and other Komplete programs happily for years without Komplete Kontrol so... well it is time to just let it go for a while.

New update (still not working). I had not tried working with NI plugins within Cubase 8 with this rebuild on my DAW PC until this evening. I noticed that I had not installed the 64 bit NI plugins in the correct folder for Cubase. So I downloaded and used NI_VSTtool to fix this. Cubase hung during plugin scan when it got to Maschine 2. I killed the Cubase process and just uninstalled Maschine 2.3 and the factory library. Upon a new launch of Cubase, the plugin scan finished and the rest of the NI plugins were waiting for me just where I put them. I checked them on a couple of tracks in Cubase 8 and they work fine.

So... it sounds like something is truly broken with Maschine 2.3 and my particular Windows 7 system. My plan is to wait for the next update and see if that fixes the issue.

Don't wait. This is not a Maschine issue but is a problem somewhere in your OS install. I don't normally suggest this but you may want to think about reinstalling Windows.

Thanks again for the suggestion b-righteous. Could there possibly be any other driver, bios setting, etc. that you can imagine might be tripping up Maschine?

Here we are over two months and several Windows updates and various device updates later!

After every update I have been checking to see if I can get Komplete Kontrol Software Edition and Maschine 2.3 to run without hanging. Last night (8/21/2015) I had success! This was after an updating drivers for my GeForce 560 Ti graphics card (a card that is several years old). As usual, after the GPU driver update I disabled the GeForce HD sound drivers and then tried launching Komplete Kontrol Software Ed. and it started without hanging. This AM Maschine 2.3 started without hanging (I had to reinstall it from the disk image downloaded from NI previously).

So... well this was weird but there you go. I suppose it is possible that something deep in the registry was corrupt and got overwritten this time. Who knows...

In the time in between... during the Ableton sale... I bought a Push (ducks and covers... ). I am now buried in virtual beat-making/controller things. Life is good...

Thanks for reporting back. Glad you finally got it working. Sounds like it may have been an issue with the graphics card drivers then.

sorry for the bump. but I had to report that after uninstalling Presonus Notion, now my Ableton Live Lite 9 doesn't hang when scanning Maschine 2!
