I’ve had Maschine on my computers since September 2013. First 1.8, and then 2.0. Right as 2016 began.. I thought I would give in, and take a swim in the 2.4 update. After I installed 2.4. For the last couple of weeks, all I’ve been doing is battling the nightmares of start up crashes. This has taken up all the time in my last 3 weekends. With 2.4. I can’t get past the start up window, before it crashes. I reinstalled my Windows 7 (with service pack 1). & then reinstalled the 2.4. again.. same issue. I emailed Native Instruments about this, with screenshots of the error messages, and after the usual wait for feedback, I got a gentleman named “Titus” who was handling my ticket (case). At first Titus instructed me to open up “Hidden Folders” and delete certain files (that all had db3 on them). I set my folders to open hidden stuff, but there were no files of the kind he told me to look for & delete. Next message he said “could be the Library”, & that was it.. I replied that I never EVER had problems with installs or crashes, or my library before 2.4. He sent me a file to run that made out a report. I ran the file & sent back the report.. & waited.. & waited. Titus emailed me, & only said “try service pack 1”.. I sent another message telling him that my version of Window7 already includes “Service Pack 1”, and letting him know of all the different ways that I tried to resolve the problem on my own (basically by doing installs on multiple computers - 3 to be exact). At first I reported that the problem was on my Mac Mini, which I ran Windows 7 on via Apple’s Bootcamp.. Then I reported that the issue also happened on 2 other computers that are straight Microsoft (not Apple). Titus then replied.. “Could be your hardware”.. that’s all, nothing else. About 4 days later another message came that said “we do not do support for Apple’s Bootcamp”.. ignoring that I had told him previously that my other computers are not Apple. & that I had never had this problem with the Apple or any other Microsoft computer until I ran the 2.4. install. I feel like “Titus” just wanted to brush this off his plate. & I have still not gotten any real support or help.. Meanwhile, I keep getting emails that want to sell other NI things.. its ridiculous.

To date, I reinstalled Maschine 2.0 & there are no problems with crashes. But I want to go forward, not lag behind, because down the road NI could do another update with features that I really want, and I don’t want to stay stuck in stupid mode. I (like many others) paid $99 for the 2.0 update. When there are “free” updates to that $99 update, we should not have to accept bogus customer support.

Is there anyone out there that has any real help they can offer with this issue.

So the 2 other computers are def on service pack 1?
If so, what are the CPU and RAM specs?
There also can be an issue with certain older graphics cards with 2.2 forward. Could also be a plugin you are loading that is crashing. Does it happen if no plugins are loaded?

All of the computers have fast processors, 2 of them have turbo boost.. they all have at least 4GBs of RAM, One of them (a dell) has 8GBs.
2 of them has had Maschine 2.0 on it since that update came out, & have run fine with no problems. The Mac Mini started having issues with crashing when I tried to install 2.4.
2 have Windows 7 Service Pack 1.. The Dell has windows 8

When there is crashing involved there are no plugins (other then NI expansions) on the computers
as I have not gotten that far after the 2.4 update install (I only add other 3rd party plugins AFTER I'm up and running good)
at the point the crashing is happening, the computers are clean. New install, and even have had the OS reinstalled.. so the computers are clean

Intel onboard graphics? If so, is it Intel HD4000 or later?
Does it crash if no controller is attached?

Do you mean Maschine expansions only or does this include Komplete, Kontakt Reaktor etc.?

initially I would include the installation of Komplete Select 5, but then I scaled the install down to see if the issue would be resolved without certain plugins (just trying a trial & error approach). On my last few installs I only included the Library that came with the 2.4 update (i.e. 2.4 Update & the Library install that came with it - that's 2 separate installs). even scaled down to that I got crashes. I noticed that when I installed the the 2.0 installer with its Library, and then did the update, that also includes a library, I don't think the update is removing the previous 2.0 Library. NOTE: After each install failed to have the software open, I would then uninstall it with an uninstaller that is supposed to wipe away all the traces of leftover files on my computer. I did see in the C:/ drive that certain files were still there, so then I would manually delete those too. Afterward, I would do another install trying a different approach.

With the 2.0 install, I never had to do all of this.. I would just do a straight install & it worked. then I would add my plugins and other things..

For the record 2.4 hangs on OSX now and then too and i have to force quit it, with or without plugins or content.
As far as i can tell it is a database reading issue, i suspect some bad code in the browser update.

I'm having an hanging issue on instantiation also. Occurs in Live 9.5 and Studio One 3.1. Loads okay in Sonar Platinum and stand alone.

Anyone know if this is a prevalent issue or just the odd occurrence?

As we are having these “Something is wrong” discussions right under Native Instruments nose.. it shows that this is a good location to air out what has gone wrong.. But not always a good place to get those wrongs righted. I mean, the Great Creative minds of this Maschine are sitting right in the background of our discussions (right) .. they could chime in, and quickly end all the confusion. & then the blind who are leading the blind would surely be.. able to see

& I don't know why I'm listed as a "New Member". I’m a since 2013 member (the NI database still shows my 2013 post). I’m one of the ones who paid $99 dollars for the 2.0 upgrade.. & now 2.4 is acting more like its devolving, than evolving.. & BTW, before I came to the forum, I did email & seek out NI’s help.. I would just like a real answer, so I can move on

On Windows, there is a compatibility issue with Presonus notation software. Uninstall it if it is present.
There were some changes in 2.2 that could cause issues with certain older graphics cards or older graphics drivers. Try upgrading your graphics driver.

Also, disable all your antivirus software. I have seen several cases of antivirus causing crashing issues with Maschine.

Have also seen some of the more aggressive registry cleaners ruin Maschine. I use crap cleaner and there are a couple others that are safe but some can cause enough damage you may need to reinstall Windows.

When you say Presonus notation software are you referencing Notion or are you including Progression? Thanks for the response BTW.

Wow guys, I have searched and searched to find if anyone else was having the same issues...I use Studio One V3 and anytime I try to load a project that has Maschine in it, or try to instantiate Maschine into a project that doesn't already have, S1 freezes! It started with 2.4 :(

Right as I was making an epic track too:mad:

I was able to finally instantiate in Studio One by disabling Rewire support...this was per NI Support phone support. Worked in an existing project and a new instantiation in a project. Did not resort to uninstalling Progression.

    Hope this helps.

So I'm at home now, but I got to thinking...which software did you turn off rewire support on? Studio One or Maschine? Where did you go to disable it?

    Studio One.

In the opening screen (where previous songs are listed and Create New etc are) in the upper menu system go to Studio One | Options. In the Options dialog go to Advanced | Services and select the "I'll be careful I promise!" button. Find the entry for Rewire Support and highlight, then select Disable and allow PreSonus to restart.

I don't think there is a way to disable Rewire in Live...not a problem for me as I only use Maschine as a Control Surface there.

    HTH :)

Thanks for reporting back. The issue with the Presonus Notion was regarding 64 bit rewire support. Was not aware that same issue was in ST1. Good to know.
