First time buyer about a month ago (Mikro MK3) and I am kicking myself for not reading this forum first. After seeing a 10 year old thread with a "wishlist" of basic functions, my last hope was this 2.8 update. I realise now that that thread isn't going to have any of the wishlist ticked off int he next decade either.

Anyone wanna buy a Mikro MK3, nearly new?

You all realize what this means, right? If they make a Maschine stand-alone they will have to include an integrated wifi router so you can get to Sounds.com :D

Lol no round robin is still unbelievable.....

Battery 3, which is over 10 years old, is still a better drum sampler than their current flagship sampler

    I'm about finished with NI

That would make sense though, they don’t do things that make sense.

What should we expect for Maschine 2.9? Will Maschine ever be a Daw (It is not intended to be) ?

Who says it's not intended to be a daw? Why can't it be one? And what makes it 'not' a daw?

The website describes it as a "Production and Performance System, Integrated hardware & software includes sampler, arranger, mixer, FX". What is missing from the description that makes it 'not' a daw?

The annoying thing is that it could be an incredible combination if the features above were improved. The featureset is just based on one use-case. The moment you try to move outside those lines defined by that use-case it becomes an exercise in frustration.

I'm genuinely surprised we saw nothing for the tenth anniversary of Maschine. No celebration, nothing new, no acknowledgement of it.

Yup. It all pretty much depends what kind of music you make and what instruments above and beyond Maschine you use.

    Maybe not having Audio Tracks?
    Sends?
    Buses?
Arm to Record several tracks at once?
    PDC?
    ...

    Just a thought...

It's drum machine inspired instrument, a DAW is something that allows you to record a full orchestra at once if need be, mix it and master it.. Altho technically anyone can call something that is able to record/finish a song a DAW.

Are you positive Maschine doesn't have sends? I send via 'aux' all the time and control the amount. I might be missing something though. :- )

I can route any sound or group anywhere within Maschine then change the aux level, I've got a disgustingly large number of sounds being sent to my FX group sound slots. I have a bunch of different verbs, one on each sound slot, and then delay aux on each verb.

You're talking about sending a pad to another pad that has only an FX, right?
That'll fine and dandy, but remember where DAW's came from, analog consoles, with sends right there on the channel strip, like every DAW in the world has... My point is that these are details that make Maschine more of an instrument than a DAW.

People can call it a DAW, but... NI themselves always mentioned they dont want to compete with DAW's, I may call it a unicorn, it's my prerogative, it doesn't mean it is.

Oh I see where you're coming from with it. Yeah, you're right about that.

I don't think Maschine will ever mimic a console style workflow, I think it's always going to be like an MPC/groovebox. Not that there's anything wrong with that, lot of great records have been made working that way. Just limiting. I feel like as NI has the power of a PC to use, it really should do so much more.

Of course, I am never wrong lol. :D

Well... yeah... I am not saying it should mimic a console, but a DAW, is a replacement of a traditional Studio (including a console-like environment mixer), Maschine is definitively not. Yeah, that's fine, I bought a groovebox / drum-machine I dont want it to be an airplane but I do want to see it do a lot more than what a standalone can and be less limited like you, and many others.

Don’t think Maschine will be a daw. It will be enough tools so you won’t need one (for the roduction/songwriting phase).

yeah, adding more sends is an absolute requirement, IMO.
