Could someone direct me to the post about using Ableton with Maschine please? I think there was a template which allowed for midi to come out of Maschine into Ableton for sequencing and then back into Maschine.

Only recently have I managed to make a sequenced track with Maschine, by recording seperate audio channels live into Ableton and then moving it around after.
I'd like to do this with midi, but it seems you have to choose to use either the internal sampler (no midi out) or just midi out on its own.

An older unanswered thread was if anyone knows a shortcut for duplicating a pattern in software, failing that does anyone have a list of useful keyboard shortcuts in software? Thanks

go into your group, midi batch settings, change it to "sounds to midi notes" then each of your sound will represent a midi note. Set a midi track to receive from the maschine track, as well as send to it, record the data on the midi track (not the maschine track)

Ah ok thanks saintjoe, I remember that option but I wasn't sure how it was supposed to be configured. Did you get that pdf document that someone posted a while ago about setting this up? I think I downloaded it but can't find it now.

not sure what pdf you're speaking of, I just kinda messed with it till it worked, the midi routing in ableton is pretty easy to manipulate from plugins to other tracks, so it was just a couple of drop down boxes to set.

Are you just dragging midi clips out of Maschine into Ableton and sending the midi back in to Maschine by any chance? I'm trying to get the live midi to output into Ableton and still hear Maschine's sound, so I can record a sequence live from Maschine into Ableton. I thought this was possible from what I remember of the guide I mentioned - if you can do this then great! It's just doesn't seem to work for me - I must be missing something.

"Sounds to midi notes" works well for maschine's input but no midi is being received on the midi track in Ableton unless I change Source to MIDI OUT. I don't see how it's possible to use Maschine's sampler and have the midi send out at the same time, it doesn't say anything about doing this in the manual either. Maybe there's some sort of crazy workaround!

it is either Sampler or MIDI Out.

but you can use MIDI Drag n Drop, where you drag the MIDI pattern from Maschine into Ableton. that is different to recording MIDI from Maschine into Ableton.

I usually drag midi clips out of live for plugins, or just drag audio,

however if I want to sequence the plugin with live's sequencer...

this is how I do it

    1. sounds to midi notes in Maschine
    2. setup a new midi track in Live
    3. set the midi IN for that track to whatever track Maschine plugin is on
    4. set the second dropdown under midi in, to Maschine instead of post/pre fx
    5. set the midi OUT for that track to whatever track Maschine plugin is on
    6. set the midi channel on that track to correspond to the midi channel of the group
    7. arm the midi track, hit pads on maschine, to record into that midi track

I may do a video showing it, it's pretty quick to setup, now I only do this for the first group, the other groups I setup an external instrument track so I can have audio/midi on the same channel.

WHEN SETTING UP MIDI ROUTING DO YOU LOOSE ALL MASCHINE FEATURES SUCH AS NOTE REPEAT LIVE SWING ADJUSTING....ETC....

it depends on what you're trying to do, you won't get any swing because your not sequencing in Maschine, but note repeat will still work.

    saintjoe,

do you have any insight on how to use note repeat with ableton drum racks? That would be awesome!

it should work if you're using midi out to control the drum rack, if you just want to use the control in midi mode, not quite sure it will send note repeat info, since it's not sequencing anything.

hey saintjoe, the set up you're running with is pretty sick, one question from me. i'm relatively new to working maschine like this, and I was wondering, with all your drums on one group, how would you get them out of ableton/maschine, into something like pro tools onto separate tracks? soloing each drum in maschine, then recording the audio into pro tools? thanks if you or anybody else can help me out.

you can export your Maschine tracks and it will allow you to export the wav patterns for each sound in your groups if you want, or just the whole group as one loop.
