    Hey guys!

I just purchased the mikro to mess around on and do pretty much as a hobby and just have fun. I figured if i really want to get the most out of this experience, so i want to set up a small home studio nothing crazy. Im looking to purchase 2 yamaha h5's from the local music store here in Canada but no idea what audio interface I need. I might hook up a small midi controller down the road but i mostly need it just for the studio monitors. Any Ideas on a decent priced interface?

    Thanks, Eh

Well not sure how deep you want to get but I would suggest a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2. I use the 8i6 and it has this software it uses called Mixcontrol that I like. Alot of people ask about how to record from in their computer to the Maschine and the mixcontrol has a Loopback so I never had a problem recording anything from the laptop to my maschine (first MK1, now Studio). It also has some VSTs too.

    Just a suggestion

You must consider how many analog I/O you'll need. Will you need extra output for cueing, for example?
And will you use midi I/O? What's your budget?

try to avoid usb audio for more than a basic i/o pair if you can, it uses your computer resources to run and the latency is higher, universal audio makes a nice thunderbolt one. you can as well use firewire devices still via a thunderbolt adapter. if you just want a basic stereo i/o, then most are fine, even usb. presonus firebox is a good one on a budget,. motu makes some nice ones.. i would personally avoid maudio. you can also get a thuderbolt pci enclosure and put a pci card in it, you will get the best performance that way, though most thunderbolt audio devices have dsps on that port. unfortately, apple has made upgrading to the new mac(booK) pro very expensive if you want firewire or pci performance. you may still be able to find some firewire devices sold to use with a thunderbolt adapter, but these are being discontinued now. if you just want to get up and running, maybe try the NI one.

these are nice as well... http://www.rme-audio.de/en_index_musikmesse_2013.php

    thanks...

i was checking that one out.. i am in the same boat.. just upgraded to a new macbook pro and though i have a xstation that has built in usb audio, i would rather use something a bit more pristine for recording samples and tracks, and a couple firewire and pci ones.. i had been using a presonus and digi firewire on an earlier macbook pro but wanted to update that....

it seems to be the only one i have seen that list it has been tested to work with a firewire to thunderbolt adapter, which is all win and it give you future and backwards compatibility

this looks like a good portable solution for the macbook pro.. http://us.focusrite.com/firewire-audio-interfaces/saffire-pro-24-dsp/key-features
