Ok so the guy has the controller, brand new in box.. Yet, no software.

I really want to buy this because it's at a great price, yet very useless since Maschine needs the software for its full capabilities.

Would NI be able to send a replacement license and disc to me for a cost, or is this just a bad idea to buy from this guy in the first place?

So basically what it comes down to is: Can I just buy another new license and disc for myself from NI, since I would be buying the Maschine controller hardware without it?

    :S

I would say no you won't be able to buy another license, if the guy selling it is legit then have him get the replacement software, it shouldn't be a problem for him since he has registered it and has the serial # and other info. What they will require from him is pictures of various items (including card with serial #, a picture of the upc code on the box, a picture of the first page of the printed manual, a photo copy of the receipt). The receipt shouldn't be a problem getting a copy because most stores nowadays keep records of the past 3-4 years of sales in their computers. The reason that I know this is because recently I had to get a new serial # and they required all of that. Btw how much is he selling it for? To be honest if it were me I would just buy maschine out right, so you won't have any problems.

Yeaaaa.. I wanna buy Maschine in full, but will cost me anywhere from $450-600....

    He's selling it for $300 flat. :|

So I dunno.. Maybe I'll go ahead and get the Educational version(college student), but I wouldn't want to pass up a deal..

Hopefully a moderator will chime in on this (hint hint) :D

Yes. $669. And you get a free controller! :p

    But seriously, what jonespnice said.

What's his reason for not including the software? Does he just like the software so much on its own and doesn't like the hardware? Or has he just robbed the controller?

I have no clue.. He says he deals with an ebay company and gets stuff like this blah blah blah, wasn't really listening, but basically in the end, he blames it on someone else taking the CD out, yet leaving the controller.. :S

So basically, he has a brand new Maschine controller, with everything included except the software(maybe the license too, if the software and license are on separate papers)..

SO.. I'm just kinda scratching my head right now, and after typing it out, it sounds weird that he'd have the controller only.

    ... I dunno.

There is a pawn shop I go to about three times a month because they have a lot of music gear.

They did have a Maschine controller once, but no software. They still wanted over $300 for it. Only worth it if you already have a license but your controller has been damaged or went missing. Or if you gig and want to have a backup device or a beater for the road.

I did not yet have my Maschine or license, so I could not consider a controller without software. A week or so later, it was gone from the pawnshop.

Argh... I reaaaally want a Maschine.. After playing with it in Guitar Center for like 15 mins and making a hot track with STOCK sounds, I'm sold... But I'm only a college student lol.

...Maybe I'll just get the Edu-version, unless an NI rep comes along with some substantial help... maybe.

Hmm... Well, it is plausible that it's like a return or something where the returning buyer has just kept the software disc and returned the controller... I seem to think the serial is on the disc case too.

You could always contact NI directly to see what they advise... If you get a nice person, they might say that they can trace the controller's serial to the software it was packed with and then tell you whether it's already registered and, if not, let you register it in your name. Long shot though, I think...

It does not sound weird. Lame excuses like that make it sound like a stolen item. They just didn't get the accompanying laptop, or they did and sold it separately. Or they possibly didn't know enough about Maschine to know that it would be useless without the installation DVD and software key.

Same thing with that pawnshop story I posted above. Dealers (especially chain pawns) should be smart enough to know what pieces-parts are required by the devices that they sell, and I suspect they are.

don't buy it, not worth the headache, you will not be able to buy the software separately, there is no such thing as a brand new Maschine with no software, not legit.

    I wouldn't buy it either.
it sounds too much like a scam...

you can only buy the software WITH the hardware, so if you buy that controller you will still have to buy the full package in order to obtain the software...

Don't buy it, Sowari and SaintJoe are absolutely right. The software and the hardware are a package deal...you can't really have one without the other. The software needs to be installed and registered to your computer for you to activate your license, so if you have the controller, but no software, the controller is useless.

Just keep saving your money until you can buy a full version of Maschine. Trust me, and all the other users on this forum, the price is worth it.

    no good, i think.

don't buy it. license is on the cd package (think). I doubt you'll be able to talk NI into giving you another copy (which equates to a new license). Effectively somebody else still has the key linked with that device.

It is probably stolen. Much more likely to be this than someone who has purchased Maschine and then lost their serial number or somebody who has bought a spare controller and then sold it.

I got mine for $450 a year and a half ago, and it's not the academic version but the full. What I would suggest (if you live close to a guitar center) is to wait for a holiday sale, and make sure you're registered with GC (so you'll receive coupons) and then use the coupon/holiday sale/price match all together and receive a good price, that's what I did. At the time maschine was $599 so I looked on line for the best price, I believe musician's friend had it for $549 and I had also received a coupon from GC for $100 off of a single purchase of $499 or more, so I put all that together and got it for $150 less than they were asking.

If op or others on this forum are looking to still purchase a Maschine, I have mine available with the software and original box with the instructions. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it, I've waisted more hours on this thing than I care to count. I'm an athlete trying to get to Nationals and I can't have any distractions so, as much as it sucks, I'm selling it.

If you want to hear some of the tracks I've personally done, check it out soundcloud.com/vanillagorilla...all those were done with just the Maschine and the samples. Contakt me!

I'd rather sell it to someone on these forums than some schmuk down there street.
