    Hi guys,
Need some help again to pick some studio speakers for my Mac Pro to use with Maschine=)
At the moment I am using the AV30 they are ok but I would like somethign a little stronger:D
I foudn a pair of m-audio BX5A Deluxe for 199$ they look good but I am not sure this will make good desktop speakers. Fromw hat I understand this are bi-amped speakers? Meaning I have to individually turn them on and at the same tiem they have to be individually plugged in into the outlet?
Can I connect this directly to my Mac pro using this cable?

    http://www.monstercable.com/productdisplay.asp?pin=136
Or do I actually need an external sound card? Also will the volume on my Mac Pro , the one in OS X , be able to control this speakers onc eplugged in or I will have to use the volumes on the back of the speakers?

Sorry but I am a total noob at this and before I dish out 200$ want to make sure I am making the right moves=)

By the way been playing with Maschien for about 2 months now and all I can say great job NI.
I already have some beats I created maybe some day I will fidn the balls to post them and no oen will laugh

    Ps

Feel free to suggest other speakers and if maybe I should just get the AV40 instead.

I would say it depends on your budget. What i have learnt is that over the years you can spend cumulative bucks on plug ins and interfaces etc when i think perhaps the single best investment is the monitoring. I used the BX5a and for the money they are excellent, reliable and sound ok. However i decided to make a bigger step and upgraded to Genelec 8030s. Expensive but make a massive difference to when i produce and mix. Also dont forget the sound will be affected by your room.

    My advise is

    1. Get the best you can afford
    2. As well as considering the response and sound think about yor room and what you put in there may not offer much unless u condition it
    3. Consider things like where they will be placed. You may need to spend on stands or acoustic insulators too
    4. One thing annoyed me with the BX5s was the power and level at the rear. In my location became an issue day in day out, so i looked for front positioned controls
    5. HAving said all that the sound is what matters to ur ears.

my advice is: go to your local dealer, bring an album that you like and know very good and listen.

I've read nothing but good things about the Behringer 3030As. Relatively inexpensive but they punch well above their weight. If you want smaller the Mackie MR5s are meant to be good monitors for the money but they seem to have some QC issues. But yeah, get yourself to a dealer with some music you know well and take your time. Make sure you get the right monitors.

    Usual suspects in the 5' lower end range are;

    Yamaha HS50s
    Mackie MR5s
    Krk Rokit RP5 G2s
    Tascam VL-X5s

A friend of mine picked up a second hand pair of BX5As and has nothing but good things to say about them. I own a set of BX8As. They sound great but don't transport well. I damaged one of mine and have been waiting four months for a new pcb! Mixing in mono sucks.

Yeah i've heard good things about them. I've got some M Audio CX5s coming tomorrow. Found a pair for half price so it's well worth looking round. ;)

I have some genelec 8020a...if you want the very best in near filed monitoring get these. They are rather pricy at roughly £450, but for their small size you will hear EVERYTHING! That may be good or bad for some.... :)

In the future im going for the higher end genelec's but they start at roughly 800-900.....

i've had the AV40's, they're ok, depends on how much punch youre looking for- are they the most acurate monitor? no, but for a guy on a budget they're great for starting out. right now i have the krk rokit 6 g2's and so far they are my favorite. like thet other guys said its all up tp your preference, everybody's ears are different; and it depends on if your trying to put out studio quality sound for accurate mixing or just making some beats in your bedroom.

Got the CX5s today. Absolutely blow my 8" monitors away. Tight accurate bass response. Really clear mids. Stereo imaging is great even when they're 6ft apart.

I don't know what your budget is but i've seen them for around $400-500. I only bought them because of the price and stellar reviews they are getting. if i was spending £6-800 i would have checked out the genelecs and adams etc, goes without saying.

There's a saying, buy cheap; buy twice. I think it applies to monitors more than most anything else.

Save yourself some money and get a decent pair of monitors. Your mixes, wallet and your ears will thank you for it.

    Just my 2c.

Hi and thanks for the help.
Well my budget atm is not to high  Keep in mind that I am really new to all of this so I don't want to spend to much on the speakers just yet.
I will say my budget is around 400$ ( canadians)
I found a pair of KRK Rokit 5 G2 , they are an open box but the guy guaranteed they work perfectly, for $279.99 ( canadian) for the pair  and the M-audio bx5a are listed at 299.99 for the pair.
I might grab the KRK since they are really well priced. I saw them at other retail stores for 220$+ for single one.
I put a 50$ hold deposit on them wile I make my mind up=)

I am not expecting the best I realize that with this budget I am not going to get good speakers. But for now I think this should serve me well.
