I'm actually producin a couple of tracks for MegaRan's River City Random project. Actually, I think I'm prob gonna end up making like 5 tracks. 2 down, 3 to go. All 8bit samples from the NES game, River City Ransom

i absolutley suck at basslines and like i said that last beat was just a sketch i have fixed it up to have the breakdowns at the end of the the verse and the end of the chorus im still gonna put some other sound in there somethin small like a horn stab but i cant find one that fits well such is a downfall of sample based music
one of the things im doin in the mean time to dabble with basslines is too double up my kicks put a lo pass filter on one of em but i guess i'm not making the filter loud enough. I'll get 'em figured out soon enough.

It's funny you mention that. I dl'ed the theme to RC Pro Am, and have been trying to do something with that. I haven't succeeded yet, but I'm trying.

I have this project in my head that I would like to do once I get better at this Maschine ****. Where I sample themes from 80's and early 90's cartoons. I hope I can be working on that by the summer.

Thanks Ben, I really appreciate the compliments/suggestions. I always try to make the drums interesting to listen to. I'm glad you like it. I'll definitely get back into Cabin-Fever and add in what you suggested, and of course, post the link when its done.

    anybody know?

im looking to get a scott storch feel type of kicks, i rather not sample his and just make my own

    Bump

To start, You can elongate the notes in the grid of your pattern arranger. Put the mouse up to the right side of the kick note and the cursor will change to a two directional arrow, allowing you to grab one end of the note. Grab the right side and drag down the time line.

The next thing would be to toggle the decay/release of the kick note, or you could add a bass that pairs well with the kick, and play them simultaneously while letting the bass note ring out.

Let me know if this helps at all

Nah I don't know much about hertz, but I think what you're looking for is just a characterisitic of the particular sample.

Can I get in on this action. I really need some good 90s "boom bap" sounds.

Also, he isn't using Maschine (he's an MPC guy), but Boonie Mayfield should give anyone here some beat making inspiration. Watch a few of his videos, and see if he doesn't get you hype.

If you mean how to change the volume of a sound, then press the pad, hold it down and turn the volume knob. Nice shortcut.

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nLAHH5RG79I"]YouTube- Native Instruments Maschine Update 1.1 (just a few covered in this video)[/ame]

It also works with the group pads if you want to change the volume or pitch of a group.

Also, if you want to do it on screen, click on that track, drag your mouse across the tops of the velocity stems shown below the 16 sound banks, and drag them down (or up) to taste. You can do this while its playing, same as adjusting the volume knob on the hardware. I use this technique to create more fluid sounding ghost kicks and snares because I'm not an expert on hitting the pads at the right velocity all the time yet.

That's actually a different thing. The velocity is changed in that way, yes. But the change the volume using the software, you have to turn the left knob that is next to the actual sample name. This way you can affect the overall volume of the pad's track, and still be able to vary the velocities on each hit of the pad individually.

Here is a short Minute and a Half (1:30) of my latest track I am working on. I am kinda stuck right now, so I thought I would see what you all think? Any helpful suggestions are very welcome!

This is a departure from my normal music. so be gentle! LOL!

i feel the concept and the way u put the keys and mallets (reminds me a lil of old dr dre-stuff). the drums are quite unusual in my ears , i miss a lil that in- your- face , caution -banga feel. i think a stronger kick and a steady snare(sry i dont really feel that delay) might be worth a try , but still

    imagine drums like that

^^^ I appreciate the feedback. As I said, this is a departure from the norm for me, I was asked to put together a track for a short video movie that a friend who is in film school is working on. I didn't get much in terms of direction from him other than he wanted a distant, and somewhat suspenseful trip hop/Hip Hop feel?

Not much to go on, so this is what I have so far, but I am going to mess around with it some more and I like the drum suggestion, and I will give that a go!

    Thanks!

What's up everyone! Just wanted to introduce myself. Haven't received my Maschine yet, another week or so, but I'll be a regular on here shortly. Can't wait!

Is Doug still posting on here (Knock, Knock)? He's what convinced me to go the Maschine route! The more I see/hear, the more I think I made the right decision!

    Holla

i feel the theme but agree with pawcut that the drums should be more punchy you should try some other drumkit maybe layer them to your original drum could give some results too ;)
